In my opinion...

Beginning of Semester

Teaching science would probably be scary at first for me, mainly because my science education does not extend far from high school level. At any rate, I've always enjoyed learning about science so I think teaching it all year would be fun but not without it's challenges. There would be many group projects to be done in class as well as awesome experiments to keep the students, and myself, entertained and engaged all year long.

There has been so much I have learned and can't wait to use in my classroom. I feel so much more confident to do something that incorporates science than I did at the beginning of the semester. I am actually excited to get in a classroom and start with some of these activities. I love that there are many different things that the students can do on their own and take home to share the love of learning science with their families. I. Can't. Wait!

My Science story starts here

When I go to an aquarium, I feel like a kid again. Seeing all of those animals up close is so neat! I love going and seeing the different water animals, whether they can move or not. My favorite water animal would have to be the jellyfish, despite the fact I got stung by a manta war jellyfish. They are such cool, beautiful creatures! I would love to have one as a pet so I can look at it all day long. :)

Not too long ago, I went to the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, GA. It was so surreal to see how big dinosaurs were! If they were still roaming the world today, us humans would probably try to domesticate them and have them as pets. Being able to put their size in perspective was a cool experience. Their eggs start so small, it's astounding to see how big some of them can get!

Natureography

When my sister moved from Florida to Tennessee, she wanted to go up to the top of the Smokey Mountain National Park. She had not seen snow since she was a baby and was as happy as a clam when we were on the way up to the top and she saw snow on the ground! We stopped for a photo op that needed some climbing to get to. After trying for a good minute, and much laughter, the picture turned out great!

Daisy, our German Shepard loves to pretend to play fetch. My husband and I took her outside to play for the first time after we bought our house last year and she decided to get the biggest stick she could find. Her stick was a HUGE fallen tree branch! Of course, it was impossible to get it from her, but she had the time of her life trying to keep us from getting her stick.

Feel: warm sun, hard concrete, tight pants, wind, my bag on my leg, sweat.
Smell: fresh air, deodorant/perfume.
See: spider in the grass, ants, grass, sun, cloudless sky, trees, students, wind moving the trees, other students observing, signs, light posts, buildings.
Hear: door to building, insects making noise, students talking/giggling, pen making noise while writing.

Smell: dogs, dryer.
See: plants, cars, trash cans, planes, porches, road, mail boxes, boxes, rugs, leaves, spider wed, houses, latter, hay bales, cloud filled sky, power poles & lines, phone, dirty shirt on the ground, spray paint can.
Hear: planes, car doors being shit/opened, birds, radio, insects, paper sliding on pants.

Feel: Soft grass, notepad on lap, hair in hand, person looking at me, still air.
Smell: Grass.
See: Street lights, tail lights & head lights, grass, signs with & without lights, cars, buildings, restaurants, plants, flag pole with flag, cell phone, moving truck, starless sky, lightening, guest unloading car, gnats & moths in light stream, line of water from the AC from a car.
Hear: Guests talking, crickets, traffic from the highway, tires on the closer road, suitcase wheels on concrete, me humming.

September 1, 2018

This plant sits outside my house. I'm not sure of it's name, but it looks like a shrub of some kind. It has compound leaves with many leaflets and these leaves aren't lobed. This shrub/tree also produces berries for the critters that can get to them. Although it looks over grown, I feel like the unkempt looking leaves towards the bottom give this plant character.

PLANT OBSERVATION

Much can change in the course of three months. This poor shrub lost it's leaves! But, not to worry, they will grow back in the spring time. I will admit, this shrub too longer to shed its leaves than most of the trees in my yard. This one lost its leaves about a week ago versus the others that have been going bald for over a month.
