Welcome
TO MAGAZINE
This magazine was created as part of the Erasmus+ project "Schule macht Nachhaltigkeit - Nachhaltigkeit macht Schule/ A lesson in sustainability: Make your school greener and yourself too" (2020-1-DE03-KA229-077458).
It was part of the preparation of the 2nd short-term exchange of groups of pupils, held at the Geniko Lykeio Paralias from October 3-7, 2022.
The students communicated via social networking and exchanged information about their cities and countries. They posted their work on an online board (padlet) and presented it at the official opening of the mobility in Patras.

What is the ecological footprint of your trip?Loading...
The ecological footprint is a method promoted by the Global Footprint Network to measure human demand on natural capital, the quantity of nature it takes to support people or an economy. It tracks this demand through an ecological accounting system. It is a measure of human impact on the environment. As for transportation, transport accounts for around one-fifth of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Transport can be one of the largest segments of an individual’s carbon footprint.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 ?
Using a bike instead of a car for short trips would reduce your travel emissions by ~75%. Taking a train instead of a car for medium-length distances would cut your emissions by ~80%. Using a train instead of a domestic flight would reduce your emissions by ~84%.
However, there can be wide variation in emissions depending primarily on a) the length of your trip, b) the source of electricity in your local grid, c) the occupancy of public transport and d) in the case of driving — your vehicle and number of passengers. Taking a flight or driving alone are the most carbon-intensive options. Between the two, which is better depends on the distance travelled. If you’re travelling moderate distances, then flying has a higher carbon footprint than a medium-sized car. If the distance is longer, then flying would actually have a slightly lower carbon footprint per kilometer than driving alone over the same distance.

The travel I will do is from Potenza to Patras. I have to take two buses and an airplane.
At first i will take the bus to get to Rome's airport (Fiumicino), 384 km, which is 0.02 tons of CO2.
Then i will take the airplane to get to Athens (1087 km) which is 0.1 tons of CO2.
In the end i will take another bus from Athens to Patras(211 km) which is 0.02 tons of CO2.
In total the emission of CO2 for 7 people is 1.12 tons.
Straight distance from Lithuania to Greece is more than 1850 kilometers. From our city Trakai to Patras we will overcome about 3310 kilometers. We will use bus, airplane with transfer and another bus. Carbon footprint emissions for 7 persons will be approximately 6.747 MT.
From Trakai to Vilnius airport 30 km by bus.
From Vilnius to Frankfurt 1240 km by plane.
From Frankfurt to Athens 1800 km by plane.
From Athens airport to Patras 240 km by bus.
For my travel from Málaga to Patras I have to take a car, 2 planes and a bus.
The distance with the car is 5,1km, 0,0001 tons of CO2
The flight of 2 planes ( from Málaga to London and from London to Athens) is 4014 km, 0,3594 tons of CO2
And the bus from Athens to Patras is 240km, 0.02 tons of CO2.
For my travel from Leimen to Patras I have to take a car, a Train, a plane and a bus.
The distance with the car from Leimen to Waldfischbach is 9 km and produces 2,25 kg of CO2.
My Route with the train from Waldfischbach to Frankfurt is about 150 km long and produces 12 kg of CO2.
The flight from Frankfurt to Athen of the plane is 1700 km and produces 204,00 kg of CO2
And the bus from Athens to Patras is 211 km long and produces 8,44 kg of CO2.
At the total my way from Leimen to Partas produce 226,69 kg of CO2.

A tour at
PATRAS
Visiting Patras? Here are some places you should totally go to. You could start your tour at Patras castle. Built around the mid-6th century above the ruins of the ancient acropolis of Patras, offers an outstanding view of the whole city.
A few kilometres away is located the oldest winery of Greece, Achaia Clauss. The stone buildings, the large carved oak barrels with one century-old Mavrodaphne, the “Varelatiko” museum, but also the unique landscape with magnificent views are some of the things you can see there.
Another destination could be the archaeological museum of Patras. It houses four thematic sections dedicated to private and public life of ancient Greeks and certain items and tombs that have been discovered in the region of Achaia. The fourth section hosts various themes throughout the year. If you visit the museum until November you will be able to see an exhibition related to "Plants and their Culture in Europe".
You can also go to Rio-Antirrio bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the entire world. Walking along the bridge is a great experience and completely safe since there are pedestrians sidewalks on each side of the bridge.
While being in Patras you have many sights to visit and you will certainly be amazed by each one of them.◾

A tour at
MALAGA
If you are looking forward to visiting Málaga you may be aware of its remarkable places whether for its history or its touristic locations, so here are some that might get you interested.
The Alcazaba is probably the most well-known tourist attraction in Malaga.
Built in the 11th century by the Moors , this palace was both the home of Muslim rulers and a fortress to protect and defend the city from the Catholics. The site is very well preserved and maintained. During your visit
you’ll discover the courtyards, patios, fountains and sumptuous gardens. As it’s built on a hill overlooking Malaga, it offers a lovely view over the sea and port.
Another place you must visit in Malaga is Gibralfaro castle. From the Alcazaba, you can go to the castle on foot via a path offering great views over the city.
The castle was built in the 14th century to protect the Alcazaba. It had a barrack to house soldiers, as well as a lighthouse. That’s actually where the castle got its name from: Gibralfaro means “mountain of light”.
