Benefits of writing a diary
The adolescence is a stage of development after childhood. But the word development not only encompasses biological development, but also encompasses psychological and social development. Today we will focus on this psychological development to understand the importance of a diary for a teenager. This is a stage in which adolescents look for their own identity and autonomy.
The psychology of adolescents is very complex because their brains are undergoing many changes:
- The body of adolescents undergoes many changes, this generates curiosity and anxiety. This also makes them question their gender identity.
- Teenagers have concrete and extremist ideas, things are fantastic or terrible. What I mean by this is that they do not have a middle ground, something is white or something is black, there is no gray. This makes them experience great joys but also great depressions.
- Teenagers need more privacy and often need time to be alone and organize their ideas in their minds.
- They also begin to look for ways to be independent from their family. This causes them to argue more with their parents and for this reason adolescents spend more time with their friends than with their family. Although they are angry with their family, they love them and need their support.
- We must not forget that the interest of adolescents in romantic and sexual relationships arises. That is why they need people around them to help and support them.

Now I am going to talk about an interesting biological event in adolescents. At a cerebral level, “synaptic pruning” happens. In this process, enormous proportions of neurons die, and this encourages the ability to optimize brain management, this makes it possible to renounce learning that is not applied, and obtain new learning.
In conclusion, adolescence is a stage in which adolescents build their identity and begin to have bigger social and psychological independence. Adolescents experience physical, psychological and emotional changes very quickly, so they cannot always process these changes favorably.
