Opera is a stage drama in which the main actors sing most of their part. It is considered one of the most complex forms of art. It combines singing, acting, orchestral music, costumes, script (libretto), and often ballet as a type of dance.

What is more important in opera - words or music? This issue has been debated since the 17th century.

The singers and their roles are arranged by color and range. Male singing voices are bass, bass-baritone, baritone, tenor and countertenor, and female voices are alto, mezzo-soprano and soprano.

The first Croatian opera "Ljubav i Zloba" Vatroslav Lisinski was premiered in 1846

In addition to that our famous operas are " Nikola Šubić Zrinski"  in 1876 (Ivan pl. Zajc), "Porin" in 1897 (Vatroslav Lisinski) and  "Ero s onoga svijeta"  in 1935. (Jakov Gotovac)
