Up In Smoke 

The big, grey clouds of smoke covered the sky as the fire drew near. It roared and stomped, recklessly fuelled with rage.

Sighing with relief, Zippy&nbsp;knew for sure this time everything&nbsp;was&nbsp;going to be okay.

“Run, run! It’s coming this way,” The small joey cried as he hopped past.

“What’s coming this way?” Zippy asked his mother with butterflies in his tummy.&nbsp;<br/>

“Everything will be okay,” Mother koala said reassuring Zippy, though Zippy could see his mum’s lips trembling.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The smoke became thicker and nearer, making it harder for the two to breathe.

The fire&nbsp;began stretching&nbsp;its&nbsp;arms, reaching towards&nbsp;mother koala burning her back paws&nbsp;and her body.

Zippy woke up with an odd feeling about today.&nbsp;

While munching leaves, he saw animals fleeing the forest towards the west.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Zippy and his mother climbed higher into the tall gum tree.

The heat drew sweat to Zippy's paws as he carefully slipped into his mother’s pouch terrified.

&nbsp;Zippy’s&nbsp;ears pricked. Far&nbsp;away in the distance, he heard&nbsp;sirens&nbsp;coming towards them.

Bright ideas border

Growing up we all loved picture books and still do. Thinking about Zippy made us feel how lost and terrified all the animals must have felt. We were inspired by "Fire" and the book "Spark". These bushfires have also damaged many community's and have even injured people .
