Međimurje is a region in the northern part of Croatia. The Mura and Drava rivers flow through Međimurje, which are the natural borders of Međimurje. In Međimurje there is a settlement of Pušćine, near Varaždin. In November 2012, Pušćine was affected by heavy floods. The floods were caused by the overflowing of the Drava river, which is located near the village. Many people's houses were destroyed because a large amount of water entered the house. Many yards and fields where people grew their crops were also destroyed. During these floods, no one was killed, but there was great material damage. Later, the county compensated for the damages caused by the flood. Many areas near rivers are at risk if there is a lot of rain because there is a risk of rivers overflowing.

Floods in the counties of Sisak-Moslavina and Karlovac

All the rivers in Karlovac began to decline slightly. The box-barrier system with individual overhangs and constant control remained stable. In Kostajnica, Una was still growing during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. It may grow a few more centimeters. The system has also withstood constant work and control. Only in Karlovac and Kostajnica did water percolation increase, so the work of water transfer pumps increased. In the counties of Sisak-Moslavina(Sisačko-moslavačkoj) and Karlovac, schools temporarily suspended classes due to floods.

The biggest cause of&nbsp;flood&nbsp;in Turkey is the&nbsp;strong and long-term precipitation&nbsp;due to the&nbsp;climate. Floods can also occur as a result of strong flows from&nbsp;snowmelt&nbsp;or&nbsp;clogging of drainage channels. The most common one is floods, which happen as a result of&nbsp;overflows&nbsp;that occur when the main river channels are completely full as a result of&nbsp;insufficient drainage&nbsp;systems in&nbsp;heavy rainstorms. In mountainous regions, floods occur from snowmelt or snow-water combined with precipitation. Very rarely, floods may be caused by the collapse and overflow of dams. After the flood, the natural environment and&nbsp;ecological system are damaged. Rural residents are&nbsp;hit economically&nbsp;as agricultural lands are flooded. More importantly, many other things that are carried by flood waters, such as cars, belongings from houses, or uprooted trees,&nbsp;close off agricultural areas. This causes agricultural lands to become unusable or to&nbsp;lose their productivity. It leads to the formation of&nbsp;erosion, which is another natural disaster. And finally, since the houses are underwater,&nbsp;the loss of life and property&nbsp;is severe.

The earthquake in Petrinja in Croatia was in December 2020, 6.2 on the Richter scale. After that earthquake, on December 29, another earthquake struck with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale.

As Turkey's&nbsp;geographical area&nbsp;is located almost entirely on&nbsp;fault lines, thousands of earthquakes of various magnitudes happen each year. In 2022, the Turkish Disaster &amp; Emergency Management Authority documented over 20 thousand earth tremors. Additionally, the year with the highest number of earthquakes recorded was 2017, with over 38 thousand. Earthquakes would have many serious impacts. Most importantly, there are going to be&nbsp;people who are injured or killed&nbsp;during the earthquake. People may&nbsp;lose&nbsp;their property and their accommodation. They may have psychological problems affecting their social lives. Large-scale earthquakes cause more building damage, and it is very&nbsp;challenging to rebuild&nbsp;these structures and it may be a&nbsp;huge burden for the country. Earthquakes can cause&nbsp;cascading events. Examples of cascading events would be broken gas lines activating&nbsp;fires,&nbsp;loss of electricity, the&nbsp;collapse of communication and transportation&nbsp;infrastructures within the country,&nbsp;landslides,&nbsp;floods, or any other&nbsp;secondary disasters&nbsp;caused initially by the earthquake.

In Croatia there have been quite a few hard earthquakes. Croatia has a major fault line&nbsp;from Split in the south to Karlovac in the north.&nbsp;As a result, Croatia experiences very frequent earthquakes,&nbsp;with a magnitude of 2-2.5 on the Richer scale.&nbsp;There are more than 200 of them per year. A earthquake happened in Zagreb on the&nbsp;22nd of March in 2020.&nbsp;The earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks, the strongest of which with a&nbsp;magnitude of 5.0. It was the strongest earthquake in Zagreb since the&nbsp;<a href="https://padlet.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F1880_Zagreb_earthquake">1880 earthquake</a>&nbsp;and caused substantial damage in the historical city center. More than&nbsp;1,900 buildings&nbsp;were reported to have been damaged to the point of becoming uninhabitable. The earthquake was also felt in&nbsp;<a href="https://padlet.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSlovenia">Slovenia</a>.&nbsp;One person was killed and 27 others were injured. The direct earthquake damage inflicted on Zagreb and Krapina-Zagorje County was estimated at&nbsp;86 billion Croatian kuna (€11.5 billion). 26,197 buildings&nbsp;are reported to have sustained damage,&nbsp;1,900 of which are unusable. Some neighbourhoods were left without&nbsp;electricity and heat, and in some areas without internet.&nbsp;The earthquake caused several fires. Most of the damaged buildings were built in the&nbsp;18th and 19th centuries, well before a 1964 law,&nbsp;following the disastrous&nbsp;<a href="https://padlet.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F1963_Skopje_earthquake">Skopje earthquake</a>. Earthquakes creep during the morning because of the&nbsp;plate tectonics.&nbsp;May all the people that died during a tragic earthquake rest in peace.&nbsp;

A large part of the western wall of the Red Lake collapsed. The main spring of the Vrlica river, Jauk, reduced the flow of water into the river bed for several hours. Stone boulders were falling from Biokovo.

The 1977 Vrancea earthquake occurred on 4 March 1977, at 21:22 local time, and was felt throughout the Balkans. It had a magnitude of 7.5, making it the second most powerful earthquake recorded in Romania in the 20th century, after the 10 November 1940 seismic event.&nbsp; The hypocenter was situated in the Vrancea Mountains, the most seismically active part of Romania, at a depth of 85.3 km. The earthquake killed about 1,578 people (1,424 in Bucharest) in Romania, and wounded more than 11,300.

The earthquake in Dubrovnik in 1667 is one of the strongest earthquakes to hit an area of today's Croatia.On April 6, at 8 a.m., Dubrovnik was hit by a catastrophic earthquake. This was the biggest disaster in the 1200 years of Dubrovnik's history. The earthquake happened on April 6, 1667, in the morning, somewhere between 8 and 9 o'clock. The first and main shock that determined the future of the City and its inhabitants was short, but unusually strong, and was immediately followed by earthquakes of lesser intensity. After the tremendous impact, buildings continued to collapse, rickety walls fell, parts of Srđ hill broke off in the form of boulders and, with a deafening noise, rolled towards the city. The cries of the survivors and the wounded, the cries of the buried, who could not move because of the stones or beams lying on top of them, echoed through the destroyed city. The earthquake destroyed almost the entire city. About 3,000 people died, which is half of the city's then population. the resulting fire destroyed priceless material and cultural treasures that were created over several centuries.
