What is MUN?
Artificial intelligence has become a hotly debated topic, particularly in the wake of Covid-19 and the development of programs like ChatGPT. Opinions are divided: some view AI as a threat while others see it as an opportunity and a valuable tool for the future. This year, the GLOMUN conference will delve into the effects of digitalization and AI on the education of our generation and those to come.
The GLOMUN is a simulation of the United Nations conference, commonly known as Model United Nations (MUN). The inaugural MUN took place in 1921 at Oxford University, where it was originally named the Model League of Nations. Since then, MUN conferences have been organized worldwide, annually bringing together students from different countries and cultural backgrounds.
These conferences equip young individuals with skills such as debating and public speaking, which are invaluable for those considering a career at the UN. The collective involvement facilitates networking and the exchange of ideas among all participants. Contrary to initial assumptions, the MUN isn't exclusive to delegates. It involves various roles; for example, the catering team ensures the delegates are well-fed, and the "chairs" manage the flow of notes and information. The film and press teams are crucial as well; without them, the conference wouldn't be documented or made widely accessible.
Furthermore, the MUN provides education on current global issues, threats, and crises, raising awareness among the participants. Since delegates are required to represent countries other than their own, the GLOMUN conference offers a unique educational experience that broadens their understanding of different political systems, ideologies, and perspectives from around the world.

MUN conferences are a testimony to the power of diplomacy, dialogue, and collaboration.
They provide us with a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of world leaders,
diplomats, and change-makers, and to engage in constructive debate on some of the most
important issues of our time. Over the next 3 days, you will come together to discuss,
deliberate, and hopefully, find solutions to a complex challenge that faces our world.
As you gather and debate, you will embark on a journey that empowers you to be changemakers and advocates of global progress. You come together as a truly diverse assembly,
transcending boundaries of geography, culture, and ideology, united by your commitment to
promoting peace, fostering understanding, and resolving the challenges that lie ahead.
The topic of this conference - Quality education, the impact of digitalization and AI - has been
carefully chosen to reflect an issue which demands our attention. Your discussions here will
have a real impact on how we envision the future and contribute to quality education for all.
Over the next few days, you will engage in serious debates, negotiate with your fellow
delegates and propose solutions. Embrace the diversity of perspectives and the richness of
discussions that this Conference offers. Remember that it is through dialogue and
understanding that we can hope to achieve the objectives of the United Nations and create a
better world for all.
Yet, as we debate, let us always remember that beyond all formalities and protocols, there
are real human beings whose lives might be directly affected by real UN decisions and
actions.
In our quest for meaningful dialogue and cooperation, let us cultivate an environment of
respect, empathy, and understanding. Let us engage with openness, actively listening to
diverse perspectives and always seeking common ground. Let us foster an atmosphere where
ideas can flourish, and collaboration can thrive.
I have no doubt that you will emerge from this conference not only with a deeper
understanding of international relations but also with a renewed sense of purpose, a
strengthened commitment to global citizenship, and a network of friendships that can
transcend borders.
Great thanks to all the students and colleagues who helped organize this event! Huge thanks
to Mrs Brehm, who is the "founder" of MUN at this school and who organized this
conference with her whole heart. MUN would not be imaginable without her.
Now: May your debates be profound, and your actions be impactful! I wish you all a
productive and inspiring Model United Nations Conference! Let us approach the next few
days with an open mind and a true commitment to finding solutions! Thank you
