On behalf of our amazing pupils, staff, parents and hub councillor I would like to welcome you to our school. Summercourt Academy is a vibrant, forward thinking, friendly and welcoming academy offering many opportunities for educational and personal development.&nbsp;It is my pleasure and privilege to be the Head of School of such a happy academy. Our dedicated staff have the highest aspirations for all our children and are committed, in partnership with parents, to nurturing and developing children’s learning. Our aim is to promote a positive attitude towards learning and to provide a range of experiences through a broad and balanced curriculum. Each child is valued for their own talents, strengths and personality and we encourage the children to succeed and reach their potential, to have high self-esteem and a belief that they can achieve.&nbsp;&nbsp; We look forward to working with you during your child's time at our school.

At Summercourt Academy we use a synthetic phonics programme to teach reading called 'Read Write Inc Phonics'. Read Write Inc Phonics is a method of&nbsp;teaching reading&nbsp;which is centred around learning the sounds of the letters (phonics), and then blending them together to read words.&nbsp;The children also learn to break down words into individual sounds in order to write them.

The time your child spends in school up until the end of the Reception Year is known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).&nbsp;All our Reception children are pupils in Class 1. Mrs Wykes is the Class 1 Teacher and EYFS Lead. She is an experienced teacher with many years of working within the Early Years Foundation Stage. We have a team of dedicated Teaching Assistants who will also support your child's learning. Our classroom is a well organised, inviting and exciting place to learn where children access continuous provision alongside adult-led activities. We have our own Early Years outdoor area and garden with many opportunities for outdoor learning.&nbsp;

Trauma Informed Schools UK is a registered community interest company working in association with the Centre for Child Mental Health.

It provides training to ensure that every adult in a school or community has the skills and understanding to respond appropriately to the relational and emotional needs children may display.

TIS supports schools to create a mentally healthy environment and culture in which all within the school community, adults and children alike, can flourish and achieve. In addition, specially trained TIS practitioners offer targeted intervention to children who may be experiencing challenges within their life that without support may act as a barrier to their ability to fully engage with life and learning.

Breakfast&nbsp;Club Runs daily from 8am - 8.35am Allsorts Club Runs daily from 3.15pm - 5pm Costs for sessions Breakfast Club £3 per session (8am-8.35am) Allsorts Club £4 for first session: 3.15pm - 4pm&nbsp; £4 for second session: 4pm - 5pm Total per day £8 (If your child stays for both sessions)

All bookings and payments for Breakfast Club and Allsorts Club will have to be made online within Parent Pay each week.&nbsp;All sessions will have to be booked a week in advance, and the cut off for all bookings and payments, will be every Friday at 2pm for the following week. After this time, Parent Pay will not allow any further bookings to be made for that week. This cut off period is to ensure that we are able to plan, and fulfil, our legal obligation of providing the correct ratio of staff to children during the clubs, and also to ensure we have enough provisions for the week

Curriculum Vision At Summercourt Academy our inspiring curriculum takes the children on a journey where they will embed their knowledge and basic skills leading them to become active learners and creative thinkers. We will immerse the children in purposeful learning experiences to encourage inquiring and curious minds. We want our children to become motivated, self aware, independent and capable young people set for an ambitious future.

Every Aspire academy and nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection &amp; Safeguarding Policy. Sometimes we may need to share information with other partnership agencies. Concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents /carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Reception children are all entitled to a free school meal and menus are shared with you each term. Each day there is a choice of hot meals or jacket potatoes.&nbsp;However, if you would prefer to provide your own packed lunch please ensure that it is in a clearly labelled lunchbox. Please ensure that packed lunches are healthy and balanced.

"Tapestry keeps you in touch with your child’s day wherever you are"

Tapestry is an easy-to-use and secure online learning journal that helps staff and families across Aspire academies celebrate their children’s learning and development both at school and home.   Tapestry facilitates this by enabling a personal journal that builds over time. Photographs, videos and notes of special moments will be made available regularly to you via your iPhone or Android App.   More details on how to activate your Tapestry account will be shared once your child starts.

Mrs Rusted is our Academy Administrator. She welcomes you to pop into the office (or phone or email) if you have queries or questions about school-related issues - for example, school lunches, Parent Pay, before and after school clubs or sickness and attendance.
