This summer, a group of our teachers took part in a book study over Teach With Magic written by Kevin Roughton. It was an amazing 4 week book study held over the Flipgrid platform. In this book, Mr. Roughton does a fabulous job in showing how we can take Mickey's 10 Commandments of Theme Park Design and transform them to help us to make our classrooms "the most engaging places on Earth!" In this book, you will see the "Magical Moments" each of our participants had during the study! Enjoy!

Entertainment is the KEY to Engagement!
Another 1st Day win-Giving the students a boarding pass as they come in to find their seat! Make it an adventure!
Treat everyday like it's the 1st day!
Love the 1st day idea of creating a video to loop as the students are entering similar to those type videos you'd listen to waiting in line at Disney! How engaging!
Rewrite your objective as an active experience for your students!
Less Rules-More Relationships!
It all starts with a story? What is your classroom story?
Visuals are key! Spruce up Presentations! Add images of things the kids like!
Creating movie posters for upcoming lessons is AMAZING! What a cool and innovative way also to decorate your room!

MAKE THE FIRST DAY FUN!
TELL A STORY
STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF
Instead of focusing on rules and procedures, make the first day FUN! We want our students to leave school excited to come back the next day.
Use movie posters and movie trailers to advertise upcoming units. When students are engaged, most management takes care of itself.
Figure out what's the most important thing(s) students must know about a standard, then eliminate the fluff.
Be yourself. Don't try to copy someone else. When you are true to yourself, you are happier and your students will be much more engaged.
Think - Is this necessary to the story being told? IT IS OK TO WEED THINGS OUT!
Combine Rigor with Treat - Allow for daunting tasks and skills to be accompanied with collaboration and engaging activities
ALWAYS keep plussing
