Time: Nineteenth century Place: The story takes place in a city. We could also say that it was once the Happy Prince´s kingdom. Climate: (a general attitude, opinion, or feeling) The climate in this story changes. It goes from a sad one, when the story is mainly focused on showing/describing the poverty and misery in the city, to a much happier one, as we can see the friendship that is formed between the two main characters when helping the poor.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mood: (literary element that evokes certain feelings or vibes in readers through words and descriptions) I believe that at the beginning of the story there is a really good mood since it talks about the admiration the townspeople had for the statue. Once the statue and the swallow met, the mood of the story changed to a much more sorrowful one, as we start learning about poverty and misery in the town.&nbsp;At the end of the story the mood became weird because the story make the reader heartbroken when both characters die. On the other hand, as a reader we feel. at the same time, relieved and delighted that, both the prince and the swallow go to heaven as some kind of “reward” for their good actions.&nbsp;

Atmosphere: (literary technique, atmosphere is a type of feeling that readers get from a narrative, based on details such as setting, background, objects, and foreshadowing) The atmosphere varies throughout the story. It goes from the details about the merry moments about the Prince's life when he lived in the castle to the wretched situations of the poor, for example the woman whose son was very ill or the musician who was cold and hungry.&nbsp; Social Conditions: The main social condition that it is presented in this story is the difference between classes, and the miserable conditions in which the poor people lived.&nbsp; How does the setting affect the plot: (literary term used to describe the events that make up a story, or the main part of a story)&nbsp; The fact that it was winter was a condition of great importance for the resolution of the story since the swallow decided to stay with the statue instead of going to Egypt, where the climate was much agreable. This was a way of showing his compassion and sacrifice which was, later on, rewarded by God.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Message: I believe that the message refers to moral values presented by the author which can be summarized by not to judge somebody or a situation beforehand. We should allow for the opportunity to explain before we come to any conclusion.

In the savannah a curious meerkat noticed that every single day a lion appeared in the cave next to his. He was very terrified every time this lion came. The lion on the other hand was protecting this cave from other lions, and he visited that meerkat family everyday. The meerkat observed every single day because he was suspicious of this terrifying lion becuase he alwasy licked his lips taking his head outside that one cave. But something was not right because that family of meerkats were all alive, he was still suspicious and suspecting of this lion. One day the meerkat approached the family before the lion came to give them a heads up, and give them time to run away. The family was telling him that he didn't have to worry and that everything was okay. The meerkat was judging the family and insulting the lion when he heard a roar!&nbsp; The lion put his head through the hole and said hi, the meerkat was shouting really loud, all of a sudden the lion seemed very kind to the

We can see some of them,&nbsp; although they are much farther away than we imagine. During the day,&nbsp;we notice a big star shining,&nbsp; and at night, a sea of little lights sparkling. They observe us, every move we make,&nbsp; every single thing we go through. They watch us when we fall in love, when we fight and when we enjoy. Their beauty is so astronomical, they are like paradise. They are the reason we smile, when we look up at the sky. Although we can't appreciate them much,&nbsp; we can feel their touch, while falling in love&nbsp; with the heavenly bodies from above.

A lightning is flashing,&nbsp; we go inside rushing.&nbsp; We hear the thunder,&nbsp; and it feels like something is crashing.&nbsp; The dog starts barking,&nbsp; and the water starts to fall,&nbsp; we keep on watching,&nbsp; as the raindrops in the windows start to show.&nbsp; The sky is cloudy,&nbsp; and the sun is hidden,&nbsp; the streets are getting floody,&nbsp; like rivers which streams quicken.&nbsp;&nbsp; The clouds are disappearing,&nbsp; and there is no sound,&nbsp; the sky stopped tearing,&nbsp; and the sun has been found.&nbsp;

It was a late afternoon in a small town in England, which was starting to get illuminated by the lights of the houses. Eric was getting ready for his trip to the Center Town Market to buy some bread for dinner. He didn't count with much money, and in order to save some, he had to walk all the way there.&nbsp;&nbsp; While walking down the streets, Eric noticed how people from higher social classes stared at him in a strange way and it was almost as if he could hear them whispering. He felt very uncomfortable, but at the same time, the boy was used to it. After buying some bread, Eric saw a beautiful yet thin dog walking down the street that caught his attention. He started following it, and in the meantime he didn't realize that the bread was falling off the bag. He kept walking and walking until one point where he couldn't recognise where he was. He sat down, almost crying, because he didn't know what to do.&nbsp;It was starting to get colder, but the dog stayed by his side all the time.

Suddenly, the dog disappeared and Eric was left alone on the sidewalk. The young boy was scared and hungry, missing his parents with nowhere to go. He felt as if the stares at him and his clothes never went away.&nbsp; Out of nowhere, the dog appeared once again, only this time he was carrying some bread in his mouth and instead of eating it itself, he gave it to Eric.. At first he refused to accept it, thinking that he still had his own, but when he looked again inside his bag, he realised it was empty and was left with no other option than taking the bread the dog was holding. Two hours later, he heard a sound coming from the dog's mouth. He was really confused, so he decided to ask him the following question: —“ Did you speak to me?” After a few seconds without an answer, the dog winked at him and said: — “ I bet you didn't believe that dogs could talk.” After some chatting, he fell asleep, but was soon woken up by the dog's paw. Another Perspective on the story Point: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, presents various central themes such as the importance of memory to human life, the relationship between pain and pleasure, and the importance of&nbsp;individualism in a community.&nbsp; You may wonder why we talk about memory as one of the important topics of this book. Well, in The Giver we can see how Elders use community members' lack of memory to their advantage. Since they didn't know other way of living life, people in the community accepted and respected the rules established with no complains.&nbsp;As a result, the Elders had control over everything. Their excuse was that, with no past there would be no pain and no nostalgia. However, they missed to say that with no past and with no memories of our previous experiences, mistakes and regrets, it would be impossible for us to improve or develop as a human being and as a community, because we would not be able to learn from them.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Another thing that is mentioned in this book is how pain and pleasure complement each other. The reason for this to be this way is simply because we can't really value the good things if we have never experienced any bad one. I know that this might sound weird to you at first, but just make yourself these questions: If we never experience pain, how are we going to know how to value joy? How can we appreciate life and all the days we are alive, if we don't know that there will be a time when we will die? How do we know we have to live our lives to the fullest if we don't know that one day they will end? As a third topic, we learn the importance of individualism due to the lack of personality and self-identity shown in this book. Everyone in the community had to obey the rules, which determined how they had to act, dress, think and speak, making them no different from the rest. This ideology was called “Sameness”, and it was practiced by the leaders of Jonas's community in its desire to create an utopian society. Of course everyone had their own dreams, desires, abilities and qualities, but they didn't know it, because in Jonas´ community everything that made you different from the rest was not honored neither praised. This way, nobody stood out.&nbsp;

The meerkat apologized for judging him that way, but then he remembered that everytime he licked his lips on his way out. He decided to ask the lion what was the reason behind that, the lion explained that every time the meerkat family left him some desert in honour of him protecting them. From now on the meerkat learnt that he had to know the story before jumping into conclusions. The lion is protecting both caves now. The moral of the story is that you never have to judge and also that appearances can be deceiving.

Plot: This folktale is about a merchant who lost his camel. He asked for the King´s help when he thought the ministers were lying about not seeing the camel

as their questions about it were so accurate.The merchant and the King were almost certain that the ministers had stolen the camel. Or at least, they were, until the ministers explained how they knew what the camel looked like. Characters: In this story there are several characters. One of them is the merchant, who was the owner of the lost camel, who is also a character in this story. The merchant thought that the four ministers had stolen his camel. Another character is the King Alakesa, who also thought that the four ministers were lying. The ministers themselves are very important in this story as well. They were accused by the merchant and the King of stealing the camel and lying about it. However the ministers proved them wrong when they explained the real reasons why they knew how the camel looked like. Conflict: The main statement of this story is when the merchant and the four ministers meet, because that is when they ask the merchant a series of questions that make him believe that the ministers had stolen his camel and that they were lying about it too.

The significance of memory is important in human life in a very important way, because without memories or experiences we feel nothing, we forget about things, we lack happiness because we don’t have memories which make us feel happier, we eliminate part of our life by not having memories. In the book we can see how the society doesn’t have any kind of memories. All the memories from previous generations are given to one person (the giver), and he is responsible to pass these memories on to the receiver of memories. So, this society doesn’t have any kind of idea of how the world was before. Receiving these memories causes pain because you receive all the events that happened in the human history such as wars. With memories you gain pain and peace, you know what is suffering. By not having memories, like in The Giver, you don't know what feelings are, you live in a world of sameness in which nobody wants to live.

Oscar Wilde was born on the 16th of October 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, and died November the 30th in 1900 due to viral meningitis. He was the son of Sir William Wilde and author Jane Wilde and the second of three children. Despite having a reputation for being a writer, Oscar Wilde only published one novel throughout his life: “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. This was criticized due to its decadence and homoerotic content. However, today the novel is widely taught in schools and revered for its dedication to the aesthetic movement of the nineteenth century. He became associated with the emerging philosophy of aestheticism, led by two of his tutors, Walter Pater and John Ruskin. After university, Wilde moved to London into fashionable cultural and social circles. He skillfully entered high society with his popular wit and playwriting skills. He was considered an early Victorian celebrity, and became well known throughout Europe and the British Isles.

Wilde was concerned because the accusations threatened his reputations, so he denied the allegations of being a homosexual and chose to sue the Marquess of Queensberry for libel. The libel trial unearthed evidence that caused Wilde to drop his charges and led to his own arrest and trial for gross indecency with men. After two more trials he was convicted and sentenced to two years of hard labour and was jailed from 1895 to 1897.

Long before the world was created there was an island, floating in the sky, upon which the Sky People lived. They lived quietly and happily. No one ever died or was born or experienced sadness. However, one day one of the Sky Women realized she was going to give birth to twins. She told her family, who flew into a rage. In the center of the island there was a tree which gave light to the entire island since the sun hadn´t been created yet. She tore up this tree, creating a huge hole in the middle of the island. Curiously to see what was beneath the tree, the woman looked into the hole. Far below she could see the waters that covered the earth. At that moment the woman fell through the hole, tumbling towards the waters below. Animals already existed on the earth. Far below the floating island two birds saw the Sky Woman fall. Just before she reached the waters, they caught her on their backs and brought her to the

other animals. The animals wanted to help the Sky Woman. The sea animals dove into the water to get mud from the bottom of the seas. One after another the sea animals tried and failed. Finally, Little Toad tried and when he reappeared his mouth was full of mud. The animals took the mud and spread it on the back of Big Turtle. The mud began to grow and grow and grow until it became the size of the world. Then the woman stepped onto the land. She sprinkled dust into the air and created stars. Then she created the moon and sun. The Sky Woman gave birth to twin sons. She named one Sapling. He grew to be kind and gentle. She named the other Flint and his heart was as cold as his name. They grew quickly and began filling the earth with their creations. Sapling created what is good. He made animals that are useful to humans. He made rivers that went two ways and into these he put fish without bones. He made plants that people could eat. If he was able to do all the work himself there would be no suffering.

Setting: This story takes place in the King Alakesa´s city in South Asia. Climax: The merchant´s problem was his lost camel. And the idea of being tricked by the four ministers. Resolution: When the ministers met the merchant who was looking for his camel, each one of them asked the merchant a question. - One minister asked if the camel had a hurt leg. - Another minister asked if the camel was blind in the right eye. - The third minister asked if the camel’s tail was short. - The fourth minister asked in the camel had a stomach ache. When the ministers were accused of stealing the camel and were taken to the court, the King made them explain how they knew all those details about the camel. This is what they answered: - The first minister said:— “I saw that one footmark of the camel was smaller than the others. I decided that it was lame in one of its legs.”

- The second minister said:—“I saw that the leaves of the trees on the left side of the road had been eaten. The leaves on the right side of the road were not eaten. I decided that the animal was blind in his right eye.” - The third minister said:—“I saw drops blood on the road. I decided this blood came from the bites of gnats or flies. After walking on the road, the ministers met the merchant who was looking for his camel. Each minister asked the merchant a questions.&nbsp; One minister asked if the camel had a hurt leg. Another minister asked if the camel was blind in the right eye. The third minister asked if the camel’s tail was short. The fourth minister asked in the camel had a stomach ache. The merchant answered “yes” to each question!&nbsp; The merchant thought that these ministers must have seen the missing camel! He asked where they

The story of&nbsp;“ The Happy Prince “ wasn’t really something that interested me in the beginning, but after reading the novel from top to bottom I realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought. This novel has both fantasy and reality which I think is a very interesting combination. I had never read a book of this genre before. It gives you fantasy and something amazing and non-real for you to wonder and imagine, but also it gives you that “pop” of reality that you know is true and that combination amazed me. The hole plot of the story is about how this gold statue of the “ perfect happy prince” gives his gems and gold leafs to poor people or people that worked so hard and didn’t get anything in return, all this with the help of the little bird, who abandoned his family just to help the prince and support him in the good he was doing.

I also liked the way they expressed themselves when I read it. I thought it was celestial/magical, more like a poem I guess.The lesson that they teach is very wholesome, it is about generosity and also that important things in life are not material if not just as simple as happiness. In the end y’all see that his heart wouldn’t melt because it is real and hypothetically&nbsp;it’s something you can’t destroy or sell as they would make with the rest of the statue. The second part of this wholesome story is that money or power won’t guarantee you a place in heaven if not what you do in your life and if your actions are graceful and&nbsp;worthy for you to go to heaven. So, all and all, I would recommend this story more so if you are a teenager or younger, obviously all kinds of people can read this novel.

In his poem, William Wordsworth discusses a relationship between the individual and the natural world. Firstly, the poem argues that humanity is not separate from nature, but rather part of it. Secondly, it suggests that the natural world is essential to human happiness.

The poet personifies the flowers by saying that they were fluttering "like birds or butterflies" and dancing "like human beings": “Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” “Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.” “They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude;” The plot of this poem is representing the poet’s wandering and his discovery of a field of daffodils by a lake, the memory of which gives him pleasure in times of boredom and loneliness.

The most prevalent themes in this poem are overcoming feelings of sadness and the beauty of nature. It is thanks to the beauty of a field of daffodils that the poet is able to leave his feelings of melancholy behind.&nbsp; The continual use of the verb “dance” shows the liveliness of the daffodils, creating a vibrant atmosphere.&nbsp; We may say that the main point in the poem is that the protagonist feels more at home in nature than in society. He is in fact not “lonely”&nbsp;at all when he spends time gazing at flowers. Wordsworth’s use of personification implies a unity between humans and nature.&nbsp;

A long time ago, there was a boy, called Jack, who lived with his mother, Eleanor. They lived very happily, in a parcel of land in the middle of the ocean. Jack was 17 years old, he was very positive all the time, and he was also very handsome. On the other hand, Eleanor was very old, her hair started to turn grey and she didn't have good health. They were very important for their community. They were always helping others and very kind with all the people that lived there. One day, Eleanor and Jack were harvesting, because it was harvesting season, and people needed to eat. But, they noticed that something was wrong. A huge hurricane was coming. They couldn't believe how big it was. So they went to tell all the people. They warned them. The hurricane was coming closer and closer. It was getting late, and the hurricane had arrived. All the people were being dragged down

by the hurricane. Eleanor had an idea. She had a kind of power. She was the only one who knew about it.&nbsp;So she decided to deal with the hurricane. She jumped into the hurricane, and something happened. There was an inmensive explosion, and Jack realised that he was never going to see her mother again. Then he noticed that her mother's necklace was on the floor, and then he opened the small jewelry, in the form of a little heart, that was hanging from it. Eleanor told him to open it if something happened to her. When Jack opened the heart, he found a seed. So, he planted it, and a huge tree started to grow up too fast. After that, the earth was created.

Poet William Wordsworth was born on April 7, 1770, in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England. Wordsworth’s mother died when he was 7, and he was an orphan at 13. Despite these losses, he did well at Hawkshead Grammar School — where he wrote his first poetry — and went on to study at Cambridge University. He did not excel there, but managed to graduate in 1791. Wordsworth had visited France in 1790 — in the midst of the French Revolution — and was a supporter of the new government’s republican ideals. On a return trip to France the next year, he fell in love with Annette Vallon, who became pregnant. However, the declaration of war between England and France in 1793 separated the two. Left adrift and without income in England, Wordsworth was influenced by radicals such as William Godwin. In 1795, Wordsworth received an inheritance that allowed him to live with his sister, Dorothy. That same year, Wordsworth met Samuel Taylor

Coleridge. The two became friends, and together worked on&nbsp;Lyrical Ballads&nbsp;(1798). The volume contained poems such as Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey," and helped Romanticism take hold in English poetry. The same year that&nbsp;Lyrical Ballads&nbsp;was published, Wordsworth began writing&nbsp;The Prelude, an epic autobiographical poem that he would revise throughout his life (it was published posthumously in 1850). While working on&nbsp;The Prelude, Wordsworth produced other poetry, such as "Lucy." He also wrote a preface for the second edition of&nbsp;Lyrical Ballads; it described his poetry as being inspired by powerful emotions and would come to be seen as a declaration of Romantic principles.

He pressed a green button and music started to come out from the speakers. It was the first time he heard something like that, so he called his crew to make sure there was nothing wrong. -Cascan: (In a loud voice, almost as if he was shouting)There is a satélite in base 3! A strange sound is being transmitted through the speakers! -Sir Yuko: It's been a while since i last heard this. I think it is called music. Suddenly, Cascan and all the crew started to move to the rhythm of the music. This was something They weren't used to and most definitely would not forget. So, they decided to call all those moves, “dancing”. -Cascan: I love doing this. Now I will go and show this to all the community.

Dancing and listening to music became their new tradition and a new way of expressing themselves.

Stories are one of our earliest forms of connective technology, because before the internet, cable, radio, TVs and cellphones, people used them to share information, ideas and memories. Nowadays, the world has become louder, and as technology moves faster and faster through time and space, it feels like stories are being pushed out of the way.&nbsp; The reason why stories are so important is because, regardless of their format, they have always taken us to places that we never thought we would go, introduced us to people we never thought we would meet and shown us worlds that we might have missed.&nbsp;&nbsp; The thing I like the most when reading a book is what they call fiction dreaming or&nbsp;dream of fiction, which is when you are so deep into the story that you actually forget about the outside world and you are practically inside of the book spending time with the characters and the world the author had created.&nbsp;&nbsp;

There was one phrase in particular Jacqueline Woodson said in her TED Talk "What reading closely taught me about writing" that really stood out to me, which&nbsp;says the following: “sometimes we read to understand the future, sometimes we read to understand the past, we read to get lost and forget the hard times we are living in and to remember those who came before us and had a harder time.” 👉https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzAtOyw6ACw

I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Flint destroyed much of Sapling´s work and created all that is bad. He made the rivers flow only in one direction. He put bones in fish and thorns on berry bushes. Flint created winter. But Sapling gave winter life so that it could move to give way to Spring. Flint created monsters. Sapling drove the monsters beneath the Earth. Eventually Sapling and Flint decided to fight till one conquered the other. Neither was able to win at first, but finally Flint was beaten. Because he was a god Flint could not die. Introduction: A marine blue planet was created thousands of hundred years ago, it was called “Dune”. It was home for 190.000 aliens, one of them called Cascan. This alien was smart and he wanted to be an austrofighter to defend his land from the evil Earth. Scene 1: Cascan was with the crew on the spacialbase. Cole (Cascan’s college was there too). -Cascan: What’s that? Did you guys hear that noise? -Sir Yuko: Yes soldier I heard that as well. Point:&nbsp; In “The Happy Prince” Oscar Wilde merges fantasy with our reality in various occasions throughout the story. The one that really stood out was how he uses fantasy, by creating fictional characters like the statue and the swallow whose mission was to distribute the statue's riches or worthy parts among the poor. In this way, the author shows us how, by helping others instead of looking the other way, we can change society. Today, we can see this situation and the compassion of the statue and the swallow reflected in all the people and doctors who are doing all they can to help the victims of the new virus. Another thing that Oscar Wilde shows in his story about our reality through the use of fantasy, is the idea we have, as a society, that if something is not beautiful enough, then it is not worth it to have it or it is not useful anymore.&nbsp; Evidence: “Far away in a little street there is a poor house. One of the windows is open, and through it I can see a woman seated at a table. Her face is thin and worn, and she has coarse, red hands, all pricked by the needle, for she is a seamstress. She is embroidering passion-flowers on a satin gown for the loveliest of the Queen’s maids-of-honour to wear at the next Court-ball. In a bed in the corner of the room her little boy is lying ill. He has a fever and is asking for oranges. His mother has nothing to give him but river water, so he is crying. Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow, will you not bring her the ruby out of my sword-hilt?” “Round the garden ran a very lofty wall, but I never cared to ask what lay beyond it, everything about me was so beautiful. My courtiers called me the Happy Prince, and happy indeed I was, if pleasure be happiness. So I lived, and so I died. And now that I am dead they have set me up here so high that I can see all the ugliness and all the misery of my city, and though ..." Explanation: This evidence explains how the swallow helped the statue fulfill his mission/wish to help the poor by giving them all his valuable parts. The second evidence noted is a clear example of how the prince, while he was alive, wasn't aware about the other people in his town who lived in poor conditions and how he literally looked the other way. As I mentioned before, both of these ideas: helping others and not looking the other way, can help us make a change in society. The third piece of evidence selected is the one where we see the prince (actually his statue), after giving away all his parts of value to the poor, was removed from its place and melted afterwards. The reason why this evidence is also important is because it helps us realise that, if we see beyond appearances, we can actually improve and change our reality.&nbsp;

The love between the sun and the moon

As they start to fall,&nbsp; they are like hair in the wind and are gently swept into a swirl. They travel through the town and stick in people's shoes. The children step on the old and&nbsp; withered leaves,&nbsp; feeling that&nbsp;sound of pleasure&nbsp; and enjoyment. As winter is getting closer,&nbsp; the leaves fall and are gathered like&nbsp; like huge piles of seeds. And as they say goodbye,&nbsp; the last glimpse of the sun sets in the sky.

Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky Way, Their love is so perfect and divine That it appears to be sculpted with clay. The ball of fire loves the moon so much That he dies every night to let her breathe, They say goodbye without a touch, And she cries every time she watches him leave. Their love is painted in every piece of art The glances between them are fill with fire and intensity, And although they are always apart Together they can beat adversity. Just to be together in the sky They wait 200 years, And once they have to say again goodbye Their faces fill with tears.

In Jonas's community, every person and his or her experiences are precisely the same. The climate is controlled, and competition has been eliminated in favor of a community in which everyone works only for the common good. What advantages might "Sameness" yield for contemporary communities? Is the loss of diversity worthwhile?

Imagine living in a world in which every person and his or her experiences are precisely the same, it sounds weird, doesn ́t it? Well, in Jonas ́ community everything is controlled, even the smallest things just like weather and dreams, and every citizen has to follow specific rules established by the Elders of the community, making them no different from the rest. “No one mentioned such things; it was not a rule, but was considered rude to call attention to things that were unsettling or different about individuals.” Differences between citizens were not celebrated or accepted.

As a consequence, everyone dressed and acted the same, creating a monotonous atmosphere in which nobody stood out. When we first think about it, we automatically focus on the negative aspects, but is it possible that sameness yields advantages for contemporary communities? First of all, there would be no rivalry, as everyone thinks and acts the same way, therefore, there would be no interest conflicts and no wars. Sameness would also lead to no exclusion and no discrimination, but is the loss of diversity worthwhile? Diversity brings in different ideas, perspectives and experiences, allowing people to learn from each other.Although it is true that diversity has some disadvantages, such as language barriers, social tension, and civic disengagement, without it we wouldn't be able to learn about new religions, new languages, new ways of communication, and new cultures. To sum up, I believe that differences are what make us unique and having our own identity is

Have you ever thought about fantasy as a way of explaining our reality? In fact it is. The book “Happy Prince” by Oscar Wilde is a good example of this since it talks about particular problems we face nowadays in our reality, which is poverty and society ́s selfishness, and the way the author explains them is through fictional characters who face these problems. Even though some may not believe it, through fantasy we are able to group, explain, alter and comment on reality. It can teach us how to approach and solve our own real problems as we observe how different kinds of characters respond to adversity, learn from it and overcome it. It also teaches us to think outside the box. Unfortunately, we usually take reality for granted since it is something we interact with everyday. Thankfully, fantasy reorients our perspective.

In Oscar Wilde's book we learn that there are uncomfortable realities we prefer not to think about, such as poverty, and hunger. That is one of the reasons why fantasy is so important, it helps us accept difficult truths. There is a particular quote from the book that talks about this and it reads the following: “Round the garden ran a very lofty wall, but I never cared to ask what lay beyond it, everything about me was so beautiful. So I lived, and so I died. And now that I am dead they have set me up here so high that I can see all the ugliness and all the misery of my city, and though my heart is made of lead yet I cannot choose but weep— said the statue to the swallow.” To sum up, fantasy is only fictional on the surface. We humans are capable of imagining things outside of what we experience, but we can only do so by making new connections to existing ideas. As Lloyd Alexander said, “fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it.”

what make us who we are. Although having no wars and no discrimination sounds tempting, it is not wothy if it means that we have to give in living in a world with different ways of thinking, different points of view, with feelings and emotions and differences between one and other.

Explanation:&nbsp; As I mentioned before, members of the community had to obey certain rules established by the Elders, which determined the way they lived. For those who did not obey these rules, the punishment was to be released. Although the Elders believed that in order to achieve a perfect community no one had to remember anything of the past and the ways in which they lived before, they knew that there had to be someone who remembered all of this to guide and let the leaders know what they had to do and what they had to avoid. This person was the Giver of Memories. In this book we are able to see clearly the relationship between pain and pleasure through the main character's experiences and lessons. What I mean with this is that Jonas (apart from the Giver himself) was the only one who really understood the concept of pain and how we need it in our lives in order to be able to appreciate the good things that life has to offer us.

When Jonas is given his Assignment we can see how no one understood what pain really was because their society was structured to eradicate any form of negativity.&nbsp;However, in his journey of becoming the new Receiver of Memories, we can see how Jonas understands that the existence of pain, mistakes and failure is what gives the human experience meaning, and how pain makes him human.&nbsp; As I said before, Jonas´ community consisted of an ideology that involved an oppression conversion system in which citizens were indoctrinated to believe that everyone was the same, and therefore, equal. Differences between peers and community members were frowned upon. That's why every child of the same age received the same things in their Ceremony each year. The Ceremony of the Twelve was the only one that showed differences as each one of the Twelve was given a personal Assignment. At the last part of the book, thanks to his lessons with the Giver, Jonas learnt that our depths are what define us, and that we should explore and celebrate them, instead of fear and ignore them.
