ELEMENTS OF POETRY
1. Stanza
Stanza is a group of lines of poetry.
2. Rhyme
Rhyme is words with the same ending sound.
3. Repetition
Repetition is words or lines that repeat.
4. Rhythm
Rhythm is the pattern of the sounds.
5. Imagery
Imagery is words that paint a picture in mind. Imagery consist of sight, smell, taste, sound, and touch.
Alliteration : is the repetition of consonant sounds in a poetry.
Assonance : is the repetition of vowel sounds in a poetry.
Figure of speech :
1. Simile
Simile is comparison between two ideas or concepts using "as" or "like"
Example : She swims like a dolphin

2. Metaphor
Metaphor is comparison without "as" or "like" that implies the concepts share some quality or trait.
Example : Life is a roller coaster.

Figurative language is the words that are used do not have a literal meaning.
Figure of speech :
1. Simile
Simile is comparison between two ideas or concepts using "as" or "like"
Example : She swims like a dolphin

2. Metaphor
Metaphor is comparison without "as" or "like" that implies the concepts share some quality or trait.
Example : Life is a roller coaster.

Hyperbole is words that consist of an exaggeration.
Example : I have a million things to do.

4. Personification
Personification is giving human characteristics to nonhuman things.
Example : The thunder roared in the evening.
