Going Coastal 2023

The beach is protected. Which means that you can’t take anything from the beach, including rocks.

Unfortunately we were a little behind schedule and did not make our reservation at the golden corral. So we went to a recommendation of Mr Hughes’s, called “fire on the mountain buffalo wings”. The wings were pretty good, but they were not my favourite.

I learned on the boat that inside the safety of the brake water, many animals use it as protection from predators and the rough sea and winds.

My group went an entirely different path than the other groups. We decided to make our own design and not use use a box. Ours was pretty thin and had a very minimal amount of tubing in it, which was only there to protect the propellers or connect something. We did face some challenges though, as our ROV was hard to balance. It was also hard to find our ROV’s neutral buoyancy because it did not have much places to put in any floatation devices. Unfortunately we never did figure out the neutral buoyancy of it.

Cannon Beach is most well known for Haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the third largest intertidal rock in the world.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The impact upon the local indigenous community from the first colonists arriving was not a good one. When they first arrived, the two groups were eager to trade resources, and share knowledge. Soon though, the colonists started to force work, and try and make them into slaves.

I really like wolves! They happen to be one of my favourite creatures and I find them fascinating. I think it will be really cool to see them up close.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of japan.

I don’t remember anything from the whale watching Center.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

First of all to get this out of the way, NO. To Clarify, though the reason I would not do this is because I would have no need to cross that way at all. You would have to face the harsh, unpredictable winds and waves. The reason it is like this is because this is the head of the Columbia river hitting the ocean.

I didn’t take any videos as I was way too busy on all the different attractions!

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

The tsunami machine in the visitors Center is there because they want to raise awareness about tsunamis. It also is a good idea to educate everyone about tsunamis as they live inside a tsunami zone. The machine can help to simulate where the safest place to go is and also show how important it is to be prepared.

Wolf Haven is one of the coolest places we went to in my opinion. It is very important that they try to save as many wolves as possible, because they also try to save more endangered species of wolf. The red wolf is an endangered species that is on site at wolf haven, and they are currently putting them in a breeding program in an effort to save them. Wolf haven is important because it teaches people that wolves are not pets and should be treated like them.

Citizen sciences is a very important role, as all of the community of citizens can put together their findings. If there are tons of citizens willing to research, then everyone only has to do one little thing to contribute. Also this can be very beneficial if you want to know if a phenomenon is happening, you can review the data and get a general area of where it is happening.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

The criteria we used to determine which crab was fastest was, one crab in the designated area and no more than that. Make sure the hula-hoop had no exit points where the crab could escape. Tapping the hula-hoop is only okay if the crab has stopped moving for a while.

Today all of the band kids on group 2 were a day or two late because we had to play at a cabaret, which was really fun. We arrived on day three

The group that I was in was called team walrus. I do think we had some problems when it came to teamwork. Such as the roles not changing unless someone told us to. But I do think we were pretty determined to get it finished as fast as possible. Another thing that I think we could improve on is communication. 

The Europeans came over but it was a very wet climate in Tillamook valley but they saw the potential in this. The constant moisture made the vegetation very green which meant that it held great potential for cows and dairy farming.
