Gems and Jewels

The sun was shining brightly on everyone's faces, sweat dripping on the rocky floor, and people dragging their way home. I ran to the living room and I switched on the radio so I could listen to the morning news while I was brushing my teeth. Then, I heard about an institute. It was called the Gemological Institute of America. (short form - GIA.) “Papa, guess what! My dream has come true! There is a institute for gems and jewels, can I please go?” I asked papa. “It's in America!”I said in a loud voice

“But that means that you will have to take a plane, and you know we can't afford so much money, we only have a little of money and most of that money costs a plane”

“Papa, I know that we can't afford so much but please, this is the only time I will do this and when I reach America I will earn money and then I will be able to pay for my own flights” I said in a firm voice

“Fine, but this is the only time. I will tell mama to help you start packing your bags, then we will see what food you can take with you.” replied papa

“Thank you so much papa, I love you.”

“This is the only time” yelled papa but I didn't listen and I just went running to my room getting my cloths ready.

Then I went into Sohim and Simran's(my siblings) room and I told them about the exciting news first. While mama was scrubbing the clothes I told her about the exciting news after I told Sohim and Simran. After she was done washing the colorful clothes and the black and white clothes she came in my room to help me pack. I was so excited I felt like I was going to burst into a flowing river of happiness tears, but I kept it inside and just made one or two tears in my room. I booked my tickets on Netscape and printed out my tickets on my commercial size printer. Now it's Friday and I am leaving day after tomorrow! I picked up the telephone and spinned the numbers and called everyone I knew and told them about the amazing news.
My name is Jay and this is how the best time of my year, will begin.

Now I’m out of the plane, and in a shiny yellow taxi on my way to the hotel. I called my parents from the glorious black turning telephone when I reached home, but they didn't pick up. Then the telephone started ringing. I picked up the slinky wire from the telephone, then swinged the telephone on to my ear and started talking to my parents and I was asking how everyone was.

Today is Sunday! I ran down the stairs as fast as I could so I wouldn't miss the bus at the bus stop but when I just reached it just left. Since the bus left I found a rickshaw so I hopped in the tiny rickshaw and told him to drop me to the airport. I have reached the airport and i'm looking at the black and white shimmering photos of mama, papa, Soham and Simran. Then before I boarded the plane I saw the board with all of the flights written on it and it says that my flights is going to be for at least 20 hours!

Then I go to the Institute. When I reached the Institute I saw loads of people shoving themselves to the front.
Through out I got very interested and I told them that I wanted to join the institute. So I started learning/studying there. Now it's 12 AM and my parents still haven't called me yet. Now I'm still waiting for a call from my parents it's 2 AM. Then I decided to sleep because it was really early in the morning.

Now i'm 20, still living in New York, and I have started office.
Now, everywhere in the office there are gems and jewels on every floor. Bracelets on bracelet holders, necklaces and earrings on mannequins, and models walking in style.

I have finally reached my dream and now I have started my own office! but i'm still waiting for calls from my family and waiting to hear what is happening over there. I guess that even if their not here I guess in my mind and heart everywhere I go and they will always be there for me.

Now it is July and I finally got a phone call from my parents! “I have surprising news Jay!” “Ever since you've been earning money I got to get into my own office, and I’m the boss!” “It is a gem and jewels factory” “Also, I have earned enough money for us to come to meet you and even Sohim and Simran can come because they have their holidays!” (even though Sohim was in office he just skipped it to come and Simran didn't have a job, just a really big house. They have so much because a lot of time has past ever since I (Jay) left for America)

“That is amazing papa, but why haven't you been picking up the phone the past few months?” “I have been staying up till 2AM to get a phone call from you.”

“I am very sorry Jay. I didn't mean to do it on purpose. It's probably because I have started office and didn't have time to talk. And always remember, even if I don't pick up the phone I will always love you and will always be there for you whenever you need me”

“Thank you papa, but now the best thing is that we can talk about gems and jewels. I can't wait to hear about it” said Jay

So after a few days my family came to meet me. They stayed for exactly 1 whole month. I was very happy to see them and make more memories in a new country. I told them to try to call me everyday. And they said that they’ll try their best to call me as many times as they can.
Then we even started sending messages to each other on a fax machines. I would always slip the paper through the slot and typed in the number so the message would be able to reach my family.

Now it's 1999 and I just got married a few day ago on the 11th of December. Now ever since I have started the gems and jewels office we can even get gems and jewels from me and papa, for free!
