Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

There is a lot of information in this museum. In this bubble, describe the impact that the arrival of the first colonists to this area had on the First Peoples. Include some facts from the display. Write at least  5-9 sentences. Try to include information on how their worldview was impacted.

Small businesses are really important to small towns because they usually are locally owned and don’t make as much money as company’s that have lots of different locations.

I’m really excited to see a starfish because, I find them really cool! They are one of my favourite sea animals because I find them unique and different from other animals. They’re really cool because you wouldn’t think they could move but they do and it’s really interesting to watch.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

For this experiment we were racing a certin group of crabs. For example my group compared the time of crabs with all their legs to crabs with not all their legs. We thought that crabs with more legs would be faster than crabs with less legs. In the end we were right!

Hatfield Marine Science Center Animal Adaptations

Animals adapt so they are able to live and survive in their habitat. They adapt faster under rough conditions, because if they don’t adapt there species won’t be able to reproduce and stay alive. Animals don’t adapt over night, it takes years of reproduction for species to adapt and change.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Assemble a Whale

When our class was putting together the pieces of the whale, we weren’t that great at communicating, everyone was trying to fix everyone’s mistake. When we got a little stuck, we went outside to look at another model of a whale to “give us inspiration” as our teacher said. Once we looked at that it was easier for us to finish assembling the whale. We were able to realize that some of the small pieces were backwards and we helped each other to fix it. We got better at communicating at the end because we realized we had to tell each other what we were doing otherwise everyone would be confused and everything would be put in the wrong place.

Tillamook Cheese Factory and Izzy’s Buffet

It was founded here because Oregon is a wet place place which is good for the cows. If you have good healthy cows you are able to produce good milk which turns into good cheese and other dairy products.

Cannon Beach is most well known for haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the 4th largest intertidal rock in the world.

You are not allowed to take rocks home because they are at a national park which means its protected. This is a protected park because when an volcano erupted in Yellowstone the magma came here and settled as rocks. These rocks are unique to the area.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

I think crossing the bar would be a really cool experience! It would be a great adventure and a great story to tell friends and family when you get back. Personally I don’t think I would do it because of all the dangers and risks there are. You also would have to go through training to first know how to drive a boat, and then special training to be able to get through safely and know how to let the pilot on properly.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

They have a tsunami machine here because there is a risk of a tsunami happening here. When kids come and visit the museum, they can come to learn how dangerous tsunamis can really be. The simulator is s great activity because it is hands on and fun to play with. This creates a more memorable experience for the kids!

This place is really important because they create a safe habitat for animals to live in. They help rescue injured and endangered animals and nurse them back to full health. This is really important because helping some of these animals helps the ecosystem they’re creating. The animals need each other to live.  For example the boars they have there dig water holes and the fill up in the spring because of the rain, then all the animals can rink out of them. The holes also attract flies which is good food for some animals. The rangers there work in order to help the animals and teach people about them so that we know what animals are going extinct and can maybe find a way to help.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Japan.

The first time my group went out we missed a lot of the clues because we got distracted pretty easily. When we came back with nothing we got sent back out. The second time we read the clues more closely and realized we had to go more into the sedges (bushes) to find a path. When we were all looking and on task we found the path. After that my group was really good at communicating and not leaving anyone behind. We stuck as a group the whole time which made it really easy to talk and figure out clues together. We learned that you have to read some things more closely because its pointing you in the right direction the whole time even if you may not see it. We had to try and stay on topic but sometimes when we were goofing off we would find clues in the weirdest places. My group all got along and together well, it was a really fun experience!

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

My group for building the R.O.V was me, Raymond, Randy and Jakub. Our group all came up with different ideas for the design but we were able to combine the ideas top make a really great R.O.V design. When we were building the machine, we had to try different ways of putting together the PVC pipes. Sometimes one person would have an idea of how it should be built and someone else would have another idea so we would build both to see what worked better. We built our R.O.V pretty quick so when we went to the pool and we couldn’t get it to float in the middle it was a little annoying. But we did it and it was really fun to drive around!

Today I learned that in World War Two they has to cover up the cannons because the Japanese might think that it is an artillery and decide to bomb it. They had to build over the pits and then plant greenery overtop. They planted the greenery so that from above it looked even less suspicious.
