"Happy 6th birthday, Mia!!!"
I smiled brightly and skipped around the house.
It was April 20th 2016, and I was home with my brother, mom, and dad. I was so happy to be celebrating my birthday. After all, it's a once-a-year kind of occasion! A day just to celebrate you, spend time with family, have fun, and most importantly: have the BEST DAY POSSIBLE. Little did I know, I would experience anything but.
The sun gleamed radiantly through the window, cascading through the living room. Spring during this time seems to be either pouring or pleasant outside. Thankfully, it was perfectly nice.
"Why don't you and Noah play outside?" My mom suggested.
We agreed, and ran outside.
My cherry blossom tree had just begun to bloom a few days ago, and the blossoms burst open into cotton candy-like pops of color. The petals fell gently to the ground as a swift breeze subtly quaked the branches.
The sun shone brightly, and the grass had become bright green since winter passed. How magical. It was the perfect day to be outside!
Mom grabbed our bikes, and my brother and I rode off down the sidewalk. Squealing with delight, I was having a gorgeous day so far. We went fast, slow, did circles, u-turns, and any tricks we knew. Mom had gone back inside, so it was up to us to entertain ourselves.

After a few laps back and forth in front of our house and our neighbors' houses, my brother turned into a steep driveway. (Not uncommon, we used driveways to turn around and go really fast. However, this was the steepest driveway in the entire neighborhood. I had a hard time using my tiny legs to pedal up there on my own.)
I was behind quite a few feet, but enjoying the thrill of the speed I had picked up on the way. It seemed as if I was almost flying until...
He turned out of the driveway at me, and everything turned into slow motion, despite the high speed both of us were experiencing. I froze and my brain seemed to switch off for the moment. I didn't know what to do! Then, the collision happened. I couldn't tell if he said anything, or if I yelled anything either, because the entire moment turned into a blur of slush and trying to slow down.
Despite my efforts, I couldn't stop or move out of the way. I lost control and the next thing I knew...we ran into each other. It was a blur. Tires scraping, voices (my own?), metal scratching, and my heart pumping in my ears. My bike fell to the side with a CRASH and my face followed. Thankfully, I wore my helmet.
However, my chin fell to the sidewalk and my flesh cut open. Was my brother okay? Yes. Was I okay? Not quite. I scrambled to my feet and my brother supported me as I untangled myself from the mess that was my legs, the handlebars, bicycle wheels, pedals, and the chains.
