We measured the buds and leaves from the 11th March to 9th May

We compared our data with the school in Slovenia (Leskovec pri Krškem) with which we collaborate.

In Slovenia they started to measure the birch the16th February and they finish on the 10th April.

In Slovenia, they started measuring the birch a month earlier and also finished about a month earlier.

We collaborate with our friends of Elementary School in Olomouc. They observe the lime as well, so we can share the data together and we can compare them.

LOOK AT THE BUDS

We chose one south facing branch that was low enough and marked it with a ribbon We marked 4 buds on this branch that we will observe with the nail polish :-)

We observed the buds twice a week: - For each bud, we recorded at what stage it is: • “dormant” if the bud is unchanged. • “swelling” if the bud is getting bigger. • “budburst” the first day you see the green tips of leaves. • “lost” if the bud or leaf gets lost or damaged.

4. we tried to measure the height of the tree

It can be seen from the graphs that the growth of the leaves, mainly at the beginning of the measurement, was largely influenced by precipitation, but also by temperature.

This year, leaf growth started 5 days later than the previous year. But because it started to get hot, the growth of the leaves was very fast, and we ended the measurement at the beginning of May. Last year we measured until May 19th.
