Westward Expansion

Manifest destiny is to take land and resources from others because God said that we could. Manifest destiny was one of the main reasons that we took land from the Cherokee and took them away from their homes.

When they were on the Oregon Trail, they had to be adventurous, safe, and they had to rely on mostly themselves as the tools because they didn't have technology to navigate them. And when I say "Don't give up, but know your limits when you need to rest or stop.", it's really important to know and have those because you need to listen to yourself when you need to stop. Especially for them because the trail was 2,000 miles long and took an average of 6 months to cross.

Here is a picture of where the Trail Of Tears routes were. The blue is the water route, and the dotted trail is the land trails. 

In the 1830s, the US marched 16,000 Cherokee away from their homes. They lost 4,000 Cherokee from death. The Cherokee were the last tribe to be forced out of the southeastern US. This was so wrong of us and it should never happen again. Accept peoples differences even if they're different.

During the 1850s, the population only went up by .3 percent. That's only 978 people. Many people who moved away from VT went to the midwest. People were also cutting down trees everyday and the woods were decreasing everyday. The population was not good. It only grew by 20 percent in one century.

When Meriwether Lewis and William Clark headed down West with the Corps of discovery, they didn't find exactly what they wanted. They wanted to find a waterway that lead directly into the Pacific Ocean. But they found out that was not a thing. But the trip wasn't a total failure. They explored all of the new land that Thomas Jefferson bought with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. And that could be a valuable thing to have had explored in the future.

The Westward Expansion is important because a bunch of important stuff happened. Such as: The Louisiana Purchase, when Jefferson bought 827,000 square miles of land. The Trail Of Tears, when the US moved 16,000 Cherokee away from their homes. California Gold Rush, where a gold breakout happened and 90,000 miners went to seek gold. And these are just some of the things that happened in Westward Expansion.
