ISSUE #2 LITERARY ARTS MAGAZINE

I can't sleep so I’m talking to my old friend, The number of wishes I had as a kid suddenly has come to an end. Some nights I wonder how you shine so bright; How do you continue to shine night after night? You and the stars shine one brighter than the other, But at the same time, you all somehow complement one another. I guess that's such as life sometimes things come and go, But how you shine so bright is one thing I will never know.

A letter from the editor.

Hi. It's the editor. Samantha. A year of working on this zine caused me great pain. Too many of our students are more talented than me. Check out their art!

It was a stormy night and l suddenly heard a “BOOM!” I looked outside, away from the comfort of my bed to see where the lightning had struck. It caused a fire to start, and it was rather close to my home. I noticed that the storm wasn’t putting out the fire, so the fire continued to rage on. I left the window and grabbed an umbrella, along with a flashlight and a fire extinguisher before heading out near the fire to investigate further. There was no cell service where I lived, and I doubt the fire department would come to help put the fire out. There were no lights working either, which was where my flashlight came in.&nbsp;To my surprise and despair, the fire didn’t go out at all, it continued to rage, slowly spreading to a tree, and dissolved from its original position

Me and a few others who had also come to check out the fire were confused, in a way, the fire felt sentient, moving on its own accord. The people around me started to become worried, panicking as the fire rose higher into the air. More people started to try to put out this fire, and the fire quickly spread through the leaves that have fallen from the upcoming autumn season. The fire was now dangerously close to a house that was made purely out of wood, and people started to stomp and throw things at the fire. It consumed everything that had touched it, the feet of people, rocks and other non-flammable items at it. I just stood there, it felt like I was the only one who wasn’t doing anything, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the growing fire. I went close to the fire and just stood by it, it felt extremely cold, despite it being a fire that started from something scolding hot.

Luckily, I don’t live far from the school so I just started walking, it’s only about a few blocks. I burst through my own front door, “I NEED TO CLEAN.” I shout. My mom and dad look at me with a perplexed look on their faces. “Why? It’s not really messy here..” My mom responds, standing up and turning off the tv. “I have someone coming over, tutoring.” I say as I start to pick up every speck of garbage I see. I rush to the kitchen and put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, I pick up every piece of dirty laundry, I run to my room and throw everything on the floor into the closet. I wipe down my desk, get out my extra chair and wait for a text from Flynn. It’s about 15 minutes later and I get a call from Flynn saying he’s here. I walk to the front door and open it. Flynn is wearing a black tank top with a zip up hoodie and gray sweatpants, he looks so good. I introduce him to my mom and dad, and he shakes both of their hands, “You have a great son!” Flynn smiles. I grab his arm and lead him upstairs, my parents look impressed. Flynn gasps at the sudden movement, “Wow, you really want me in your room, huh?” I laugh, nudging him into my room, “keep it up and I will make you study in the closet.”&nbsp; Flynn looks around my room, sitting on my bed rather than the chairs and desk I had set out. He grabs my hand and pulls me down beside him, not letting go but loosening his grip. He turns to me, a sense of curiosity was in his eye, “Auggie, how did you know you were gay?” Now, this question wasn’t out of the ordinary - the whole school knew I was gay, I was very open about it because I’m very proud of it, but Flynn asking? That’s a little weird. I take a deep breath and begin, “Well, I always knew I was different, I guess. Not exactly weird, I just didn’t like the same things or find happiness where everyone else did. As I get older, I realize&nbsp;that all of my celebrity and real crushes have always been guys.”

I am a lonely sunflower that shines so bright, I am the only sunflower who stays home at night. I am a sunflower who sokes up the rain on a cloudy day, I am that one sunflower who never knows what to say. I am a sunflower who loses her petals and gives up fast, I am a sunflower who wants to be great but her motivation doesn’t last. Even the butterflies who flutter past know I’m a sunflower, A sunflower who never stays out of the rain for an hour. A sunflower who is all out of nectar, A sunflower who can’t even fit into her own sector. A sunflower who is sweet but bitter at the same time, A sunflower who consistently commits a crime. I am a sunflower who has flaws but still shins, I am a sunflower that never dimes. I am a sunflower that looks both ways, I am a sunflower that you can look at for days.

&nbsp;Flynn is very concentrated, I actually feel like he’s listening which is a really nice feeling. “Why do you ask?” I question, his facial expression changes into a more worrisome look. “I’m just, you know, wondering,” He shrugs it off, “Let’s do homework, yeah?” I want to know, but I figure he doesn’t&nbsp; want to talk about it anymore so I don’t even think about pushing it. I lean over Flynn to grab my textbook and plop it on his lap, “Read these problems and solve them.” I open the book to what we were learning and give him some loose leaf paper, a folder to write on and a pencil. He looks at the book for about 2.5&nbsp; seconds and looks at me, “I don’t get it.” I grab his pencil and point out the instructions, “You gotta actually read the book, idiot.” Flynn looks at me, “I rather not.” He says in a jokingly annoyed tone. “We could just.. Entertain ourselves? Tell me the real reason you asked how I knew I was gay.” I’m not usually this bold, but Flynn makes me feel like I’m on top of the world. I use his shirt to pull him closer to me, our noses are almost touching. I long to make the gap between our lips close, but we get interrupted by his phone. “It’s.. it’s my mom, she’s here, I’ve got to go – this was… eye opening… I’ll see you tomorrow, right?” He exits, I can’t get any words out, believe me, I try. I run to my window and watch him get into his mom’s car, “Yeah, tomorrow.” I wave to him, not that he would see, he’s already down the block.&nbsp; It’s a long and restless night after Flynn left, I can’t think about anything but the moment where I almost kissed him. I could’ve done it, why did his mom have to get here?&nbsp;

Every body type and every person is beautiful no matter their differences. And to truly be at one with yourself you grow to learn to love yourself for these differences. Cause all in all there is nothing more enchantingly beautiful than being happy with yourself! &lt;3 Instagram: saki._.cypher

When upset we tend to push others away and wallow in our self despair. The storms within , often pushing those very close to us away. As for some may claim we are to much to handle. However let out that scream and whatever has been bothering you. For it will leave you feeling much more relieved later having been able to express yourself! Everyone pushed me out of the way to continue pounding at the fire, but nothing worked. It was useless at this point to continue fighting it. Sooner or later more houses started to set ablaze, with the fire dissipating at a previous house. I had nothing important to me at my house, and I valued my life more than anything, so I just stood in front of the burning houses. It looked like hell’s walls, hell’s gateway to the mounts of fire and utter despair below. It was beckoning me to step forward, the mesmerizing wall of fire stayed how it was for a while. I didn’t step forward though, I still had some common sense in me to not do that and get myself killed.&nbsp; What had felt like an eternity, only thirty minutes had passed since everything started. There was screaming and wailing in the background from people who had just lost their homes, their loved ones and such.

I never looked back at any of them, I felt myself almost becoming blind from watching the fire for too long. I slowly walked up to the alley of fire that was in front of me. I wasn’t feeling like myself anymore, I had lost my mind and I gave into the temptation. It felt like a magnet, pulling me in more and more and I soon walked into the fire, nobody had batted an eye to my actions. The fire had started to dissipate after my sacrifice, releasing this thick plumb of smoke as the storm finally moved away. Every single person in the area had breathed the poisonous smoke in, slowly but surely killing every single person before sunrise. The fire didn’t fully disappear though. The tree that housed the fire originally still had a spark of it left, and instead of disappearing, it made the tree into an everlasting sakura tree. The place around it returned to normal like nothing happened, and the alley of fire will continue for years to come.
