what are earthquakes?
An earthquake is the shaking of the Earth's surface caused by a sudden release of energy in the hydrosphere, which causes vibrations.
their are some small earthquakes which don't harm anything rather then larger earthquakes are much more harmful and they demolish shops, houses and cities and sometimes harm people (nearly 750 000 people died due to earthquakes!)
what causes earthquakes?
An earthquake is caused when the movements of the tectonic plates (rocks that move underneath earth surface.) these two rocks/plates are always moving but by fault they can be stuck slightly on top of each other. They can continue to escape however there movement causes an earthquake to occur.
where they happen
An earthquake worldwide but most of the earthquakes occur along the edge of the oceanic and global plates. Earthquakes happen mostly in Japan due to the country's position. Earthquakes mostly happen in the pacific ocean. the world's largest earthquake belt, runs along the Pacific Ocean's rim, and is home to 81 percent of the world's largest earthquakes.
how to measure an earthquake
records the ground motion induced by seismic waves as a digital graphic. A seismogram is the name for the digital recording. The power and duration of the earthquake's waves are detected and measured by a global network of seismographs.
