Christmas in Italy
BEFANA
La Befana is a typical Christmas figure in Italy. It is the distributor of gifts, linked to the Christmas festivities.
The legend explains that Befana visits children the previous Christmas night to fill the socks with candies and chocolate. If they have been bad boys and girls Befana will fill their socks with coal.
Befana is an elderly woman, who flies on a broom. Unlike a witch, she usually smiles and she has a bag full of sweets, gifts and also charcoal.
