In 1909 tillamook cheese was established. This was because the settlers in 1880 realized that the Oregon Coast’s climate was perfect for growing healthy grass to feed cows! Since then many cheese factories have been established because of the perfect conditions for dairy cows.

I really hope to see this kind of sea star. It’s called a sunflower sea star. It’s from the book highest tide and I’ve seen many pictures of them so I really want to see one. I like them because they are kind of different from every other sea star

This is the attraction I’m looking forward to seeing. I’m looking forward to seeing it because I have never seen a ship wreck before and it looks super cool. I was looking at pictures online and I saw what it used to look like and what it looks like now and it’s so different. Overall I’m just so excited to see this attraction because it’s a tiny part of the history of our trip.

I think the Audubon Society is important because it protects and helps animals in need. They have acres on acres of reserve where birds and animals can Roam free and the people of the Audubon Society can track them as they need. Reasons like decrease in a certain species, increase, new species, or even injured animals are just a few reasons why it is good for people to keep watch on species in the area. Another reason the Audubon Society is important is because they educate people. They educate people of birds and animals and plants that live in the area, history of the Audubon Society, and respect for nature. I learned so much while we were there. They are inspired by a few things. 1: their love for nature and animals pushes them to work hard and do what they need to. 2: John James Audubon, who the Audubon Society is named after, painted many amazing paintings of American birds but the only way he could do that was to shoot them. So the Audubon society was formed and ever since they have been protecting birds. 

Cannon Beach is most well known for ___ _ Rock. It is sometimes called the ____ largest intertidal rock in the world.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

The criteria we had to follow for the speedy science experiment was same size, same species,  and same number of legs. The variable we isolated was gender. We had two males and two females. Both of the green species, both medium sized, and both had ten legs. Our hypothesis was that the male crab would win because it was smaller (that is what we thought but it turns out the female was smaller) and didn’t have to carry eggs. But the result was actually the female won. The female was smaller and wasn’t carrying eggs at the time.

The more sea lions bark the bigger the bump on its head gets. This bump is used for when they meet their mates.

My favourite thing that I learned at Fort Stevens was the 360 degree disappearing rifle. I found it really interesting when we went inside the old room where the rifle used to be and Chuck told us all about how they cleaned it and shot it. It was really interesting the way the gun worked, how it would pop up, shoot, and then go back down. The coolest thing that I learned about the guns was the fact that we will never ever see that kind of rifle again because it is the only one left. There was one other one in Texas but it got blown out by a storm. I really loved this tour and learned many things about the civil war and world war 2. 

Hatfield Marine Science Center Estuary Investigation

I think the world needs citizen scientists because they have fresh new ideas. They are usually teens or young adults so they have more experience with technology, since their life kind of revolves around it, and have the tools to use it. I think citizen scientists are very important also because they are volunteers which literally means they are doing it because they love it which means they may be more passionate and ready to try anything.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

In my R.O.V. Challenge group was Luciano,Ben, and Izzy. We solved the R.O.V. Challenge by constructing a rectangular shaped frame made of all different lengths and sizes of tubes and connectors. Long, short, medium tubes, 2 part, 3 part, 4 part connectors were the things holding our frame together. After the frame was built we eventually were able to find a place for the propellers after a lot of re thinking our structure. This is when a few challenges came up. We started arguing and not agreeing with each other’s ideas. So we ended up kind of just throwing things together at the last minute, I think it could have been a bit better. Although we didn’t get much practice time we made it pretty far in the competition with our amazing drivers. (not me, I was not the best at driving) So overall I would change a few things such as planning out where to put the motors and better teamwork. The R.O.V. Challenge was pretty fun but I think I could do better next time.

I think there is a tsunami machine in The visitors center to warn people. It shows people what could happen to their house if it gets hit and how big the wave is in comparison.  The main reason they have it is probably because they want people to beware and know whet to dowhen Oregon gets hit by a tsunami

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The first colonists from Europe came to America in 1778 and introduced fur trade. Fur trade taught them that some things have higher value than others. It also taught them about currency, before they just shared everything and then they learned how to trade. Their worldview was impacted hugely because of these new comers and the maritime fur trade they brought them. The main thing they traded with the colonists was otter furs. Once they got these furs they took them back to Europe and traded them with people their. By 1810 sea otter populations had gone down extremely from the success of the trade.

We could not bring rocks home from the beach because they are special rocks. It is a cobble stone beach and they don’t want it to get wrecked. No matter how cool the rocks are we can’t take them.

I think activities like this are important to small towns because it brings people. Attractions and landmarks like this are things that most people like so when they come here they would go and then tell other people who would also go to the attraction which means the town gets more people, which means they get more profits.

My instinct is to say no, I would not cross the bar. The waves are huge, thousands of people have died, and  it just looks really scary. But when I think about it, I might. I would be going out there to help people and even if I didn’t make it at least I would have tried to help someone.
