With a heart of flames
TopThorn gallops to battle
Now alone he lies

My Dear Maisie,
I have made it to my post in this unfamiliar wasteland of the Great War,
It’s even worse then I expected,
Horses of all kinds are coming in everyday, more and more,
Injured or sick or just plain old lost like the rest of us.
Anyways, on a lighter note,
They say it could end soon,
They are talking about a boat,
I can’t wait for just one more of your pasties, just one.
You are going to have to get used to having a horse,
Because I am sure I will find Joey,
You will love him of course.
I love you my dear,
I love you and miss you while I am here.
Joey’s War Imagery
First all you hear is whistling coming from somewhere above your head in the grey skies
And then you smell it, the burning, the kind of burning that makes your hair stand on end
And then you run
As fast as you can
Because what punches the ground behind you could easily end everything
It’s almost something you can feel
The feeling of tremors travelling underneath your hooves after the shell explodes
A deafening sound of ringing fills your ears as you continue to run across fields and trenches
You narrowly escape the shattering bomb
And you run
And run
And run
