I looked at father with disbelief. How could he, how could he do this to me once again? Always me. Hatred burned in my eyes as I stared at Father's dark, ugly, gray eyes. I don't understand why. What is the point of all of this? Just let Sara stay, everything will be fine, why must he make her go?" Where is Sara?" I boomed at him, anger rushing through my veins.
He looked at me and shook his head gently, " you don't deserve to know."
I glared at him, tears were forming in my eyes. I was wrong about father, he just hates me, he never loved me, he never even cared about me. If mother hadn't died, none of this would’ve happen, and now, I could feel my heart cracking, breaking into pieces. No one loves me.
" Why do you always have to do this to me?" Trying to hide always the tears.
Father laughed, " why? You don't know why? I know your plan, don't think you can ever hide it from me."

I glared at him, tears were forming in my eyes. I was wrong about father, he just hates me, he never loved me, he never even cared about me. If mother hadn't died, none of this would’ve happen, and now, I could feel my heart cracking, breaking into pieces. No one loves me.

" Tell me what I did wrong, please, just bring Sara back to me," I yelled painfully. " I need her, why are you like that to Sara, why is it only Sara. Why not me, please, don't do it to Sara, she's had enough of this, please, do it to me."
" Why should I do that to you, you are not Sara, you are nothing like Sara." His voice was cold but furious, " I am like that to Sara because she is not you, and I don't ever want her to be like you."
" I am nothing like Sara? You are the one that's nothing like her, she doesn't deserve you, no, you don't deserve her." I finally couldn't hold back anymore, I let the tears drop. I stormed into my room without a further word. The last thing I knew when I was still in my senses is when Father entered my room, his shadowy, terrifying face.

The last thing I knew when I was still in my senses is when Father entered my room, his shadowy, terrifying face
I clicked my pen shut, as I examined the last finishing piece of the puzzle I have made. My father had given me a puzzle piece, just one piece, that my mother wanted to gift it to me before she died. The puzzle piece was bronze and has an odd key hole in the middle. I'd never got to see my mother, and even if I did, it was only when I was a few minutes old. She had died from childbirth, and I was the child she risked her life for, that she wanted to give birth to. I put the last piece of my puzzle I’d made on the last blank square. I have been recreating the other pieces of the puzzle. I've always kept it safe, because I knew, that it was the first, last, and only gift my mother has ever given me.
I sat on the porch of my Aunt and Uncle's house, looking at the street. I reached down my pocket and felt the shape of the puzzle piece my mother had given me. I always kept it in my pocket unlike the rest that I made which were in a box under my bed. Just feeling it, tracing the shape, gives me strength when I needed it. Even if I have never seen my mother, I knew inside, without a doubt, that she would be the best woman I would’ve ever met.
My backpack sat on the windowsill unmoving. I haven't touched it in two years, I haven't been to school for two years. I have been homeschooled by my aunt and uncle since I was 13. didn’t feel like a whole. What was the reason father sold Thomas? I continued to look around, recognizing the familiar houses and poeple. This is Selanes, where I live, and it was a beautiful place. Unlike the other half of the island, Furaira. Thinking of Furaira, even the name, makes me shiver. Because that, was where Thomas was sold.
Grace was the one who had told me the rumor. She was my best freind, who had been my best friend since kindergarten. We have been over to each other's houses very often, she is the person I trust the most after Thomas. Without her, I don't even know what would happen to me now. Father had sent me to my Aunt and Uncle's house 4 months before Grace told me about Thomas. Even though my Aunt and Uncle were both really nice to me because they didn't have their own child, I still try to escape the house in the 4 months of time. Because without seeing Thomas every day, without seeing his smile, I would never smile. After Grace had told me about the rumor she heard going around with Thomas, I officially quit school. I didn't feel like talking to people my age anymore, especially boys, which will make me morn Thomas even more. My father disappeared after the rumor was spread, I never saw him again, but I didn't care. I never bothered to care.
My eyes flashed back to my backpack again and reminded myself that tomorrow is my first day of school in two years. I am fifteen years old now, I am sure that I will be able to handle the people. I still dream of nightmares of Thomas being tortured every day, but I can't do anything. Selanes citizens are not allowed to cross the borderline between Selanes and Furaira. So even if I ever had the courage to go, I wouldn't be able to.

"How do you do my little girl." greeted my uncle.
"Nervous I guess" I replied.
"Sweetie, we understand, you are such a big girl now, I know you can handle it." comforted my aunt as she entered the room and handed us a bowl of milk and a sandwich, "and don't you have Grace with you? You will be fine, I promise.”
I took a big bite of my sandwich to give myself an excuse for not talking anymore for the rest of the morning. As I finished the last bit of my milk, the corner of my eye caught a hand waving at the door. I took a quick glance at the doorway and realized that Grace was waving outside. I quickly returned my bowl to the kitchen and made a quick hand signal that I will be right back to Grace.
I ran into my room, putting on the first shirt and pants I see. Then grabbed my two years old backpack, dusted it a little, and swung it around onto my back. Then grabbed my shoes and ran to the door to greet Grace.
Panting slightly, I exclaimed, "Hi, well you look nice today!"
Grace chuckled and spun around, as if to show me the whole outfit, "just a ‘first day of school' thing you know, you always got to get ready. How are you, Sara?"
I smiled the first time in weeks, if there wasn't Thomas, it would be Grace that would make me happy the most. She looked at me with bright sparkling eyes and asked cautiously, "um, you ready for school today?"

She smiled nervously and said, "well, um, I wanted to be with you, so I requested it just once -"
"once?" I asked doubting
"fine, a few times"
"a few?"
"Ok, ok, every day for the past 2 months," Grace finally admitted.
"That's what I thought," I said teasingly. I didn’t blame her, I actually wanted her in my class. We had known each other for years, and it would be nice for us to be together. Especially at school.
As we walked to school, I noticed more and more kids, they all look so, normal. As if nothing has ever happened to them. Standing there, looking completely stupid, even if I never knew who he was, was a tall brown haired boy. His brown hair is a darker shade than mine, but that wasn't what triggered me the most, it was how he smiles. It was oddly familiar, he looked so much like, Thomas.
Grace nudged me and I shook my head from the shock as I greeted my teacher. He was called Mr. Filk. Mr. Filk arranged our seats, and I was seated a few seats away from Grace. But I was also placed next to the boy. I feel myself flushing again, I don't know why, I never knew he existed until today, or just a few minutes ago.
"Hello," said a cool deep voice.
I turned my head automatically to the sound that was right next to me, and I realized it was the boy. "oh, uh- hi" I managed to get out my suddenly paralyzed mouth.
He smiled and continued, "you're Sara, right? I heard a lot about you from Grace." and then looked at Grace's direction.
"o- um yea, I'm Sara." my voice was barely a whisper. I glared at Grace who gave me a thumbs up.
"Hi Sara, I'm Charles. It is true of what Grace said, you are beautiful." His voice was so comforting.
I smiled automatically as if his voice was warming my heart, and brain, I had finally come to my senses, "Hi, uh sorry with my awkwardness, im still not really familiar with talking to new poeple."
