The 100th Day of School

It was the day before the 100th day of school and Mrs. Anders announced, “Tomorrow is the 100th day of school! To celebrate we all will bring in 100 of an item from home. We will all share during circle time tomorrow!”

"I’m going to bring in 100 dinosaurs!” said Johnny. 

“I’m going to bring in 100 of my favorite Legos.” announced Danny.

“I can’t wait to show everyone my collection of chewed bubble gum!” said William proudly.

“EW!” everyone screamed!

Oh no. . . thought Taylor, I don’t think I have 100 of anything. . . What am I going to do?

After school Taylor went to her bedroom to look for something to bring in. She had an idea! “I have lots of socks!” she shouted. Taylor counted her socks, “2, 4, 6, . . . 22, 24. . . That’s it?”

“What else might I have 100 of?" she wondered. She thought and thought, “Maybe Mommy has 100 hair ties!” 
“Mommmmyyyy! Where are your hair ties?” Taylor yelled downstairs.
“In the bathroom, Sweetie. Why?” Her mother called back.

Taylor ran to the bathroom, She grabbed the basket of hair ties from the bathroom sink and began to count. 
. . . 95, 96, 97, 98. 










“98?!” Taylor searched the house for two more hair ties. She looked in the couch cushions, she looked under the bed, she even looked under Scruffy’s dog bed. But there were no hair ties to be found. 

Taylor walked downstairs feeling worried.
“What’s the matter, Taylor?” her Dad asked. 

“Tomorrow is the 100th day of school and I don’t have anything to bring in to show the class.” 

“hmm . . .” thought Dad. “What about books?”

“I only have 25,” Taylor replied, I already counted.” 

“Well I’m sure your friends have books, why don’t you ask your friends to bring in some of their books to help you reach 100.”

“That’s a great idea!” said Taylor with a smile.

She hugged her dad and ran to the phone.

Taylor called Johnny, Katie, and Stephanie. They each had 25 books too! They agreed to bring in their books to help Taylor reach 100.

The next day at school Taylor was excited to share her 100 things. 


“I brought 100 dinosaurs!... 5,10,15, 25,30…105?” said Johnny.
“Wait! You missed 20!” Taylor called out.
“Ohhh that makes sense.” said Johnny.
