Dear Parents and Students,

These days we hear about an increase in violence against doctors and hospitals all over the country. It is the need of the hour that these angelic heroes of our lives get their due respect and recognition.  Our students and teachers paid their tribute to the medical practitioners on the Doctors’ Day.   The Inter-House Debate competition, ‘Prove a Point’ saw the students acting as both the mentors and mentees. The student mentors gave rigorous training to the mentees assigned to them. It was a gratifying moment for the mentors when they saw the performance of the mentees during the debate. The club activities took an altogether different dimension this year and it was an innovative experience for the students. The students of grades VI-IX were introduced to Table Etiquettes, Interior Designing, Balanced Diet and Aerobic Exercises by experts in the respective fields. They got hands-on experience by doing activities shared in their classrooms. Our students proved their mettle in the various Inter-School events and won laurels for the school. The Inter-House Spelling Bee competition, ‘To cement the sounds and letters’ helped to enrich the vocabulary and correct usage of the English language. The Assisi Model United Nations team has started the web series titled ‘Learn the A to Z of MUN’ to make our students competent MUNners. The Assisi Talent Fest saw the unleashing of the potentials of our students. It is a great platform for students to nurture their calibre. The Assessment and Evaluation for Grades I – XII took place in the second week of July and the results were shared with the parents. Our students have actively participated in the various initiatives of CBSE and the report and work of the students were uploaded on the CBSE link. The PTA Executive Committee for the academic session 2021-2022 was formed and the various office bearers were nominated. The AISSE and AISSCE 2021 results were declared and our students have come out in flying colours. The marvellous results are a testimony to the resilience of our students and teachers and the effective teaching-learning strategies adopted on the online platform. Well done Team Assisi, keep it up!

THE ANGELIC HEROES OF OUR LIVES
On 1 July 2021, Doctor’s Day was observed with Dr. P K Sasidaran, the former Professor and HOD of Medicine and Haematology in Government Medical College, Kozhikode as the Chief Guest. The School Director, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Baiju Ben, Associate Director, Rev. Dr. George Mathirapilly, Principal, Ms. Suma Paul, former Principal Ms. Helen Job and Manager Mr. Roy Kurisingal blessed the occasion with their presence. We started the event by invoking the blessings of God with a Prayer Song, graciously sung by Riya Sara Alex of class X D, which was followed by a warm welcome speech by Gadha Amal Nair of class X A. To express our wholehearted gratitude to the healthcare community who are constantly looking after us, the students of class X prepared a beautiful presentation dedicated to these valiant warriors. Following that, a wonderful felicitation speech was given by Ann Mary of Class X B. Class X students also sang a beautiful song, composed by Ms. Thankam, Head of the Malayalam Department, in honour of the health warriors. It was indeed a treat for our ears.

The honourable Chief Guest for the day Dr. P. K. Sasidaran in his talk emphasised the significance of diet and lifestyle in the battle against covid-19. Following the speech, we had an interactive session on topics such as the importance of having a well-balanced diet, the impact of social and environmental conditions on health, especially during the pandemic, and how people should start following healthy and good lifestyles. Active participation by parents and students was the hallmark of the session. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Annetta Martin of Class X D.

Rev. Dr. Francis Kannikal Memorial Inter House Debate Competition 2021-2022 was live-streamed on 6 July, 2021 at 4:30 pm on the Google Meet platform. The competition was presided over by the Principal, Ms. Suma Paul. The judging panel comprised Mrs. Issamma George, as the Chief Judge with Ms. Bindu Polat (Faculty, English Department) and Ms. Helen Job (Former Principal) as co-judges. The topic of the debate was whether Artificial Intelligence would take over Human Intelligence. The competition was between two teams, Green House teamed with Red House on the Affirmative and Red House teamed with Yellow House on the Opposition. All the participants were extraordinarily skilled. In the neck-to-neck battle of viewpoints and perceptions between the teams, the Proposition (Green & Blue) emerged winners. The Chief Judge Mrs. Issamma George, English Department Head in Delhi Public School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, declared Gia Jobin (Red House) as the Best Debater and the Best Speaker as well. To conclude, the online debate offered a unique experience both for the audience and the contestants.
