Subash Gireesan of Assisi School, 2009 batch, was awarded a Ph. D degree on 30 April 2021, for his thesis titled 'Modelling novel thermal transport phenomena in semiconductor nanowires' from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands. His Ph.D. project was part of the Computational Sciences for Energy Research (CSER) program, co-financed by Shell and the Netherlands Organ Engineering from SASTRA University, Thanjavur, in 2013, and he did his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai in 2016. He is the son of our Chemistry faculty member, Ms. Meenakshi Gireesan.

Anna Shibu of class VIII said it was very interesting and there were many different types of questions which enhanced her thinking skills.&nbsp;

Derrick Jerome of class VIII also attended the olympiad and said it was based on Physics and Maths.&nbsp;

Ashwin Panicker of class VII mentioned that it was interesting and based on problem-solving.&nbsp;

The preliminary round of Wizklub HOTS Olympiad was conducted on 31st May, 2021. It was offered for students of age group 6-13 yrs. The students of our school from class I- VIII took part in the preliminary round. There were 257 students who registered for the same and 204 students qualified for the next round. The Olympiad had multiple choice questions catering to&nbsp;high order thinking, logical reasoning and problem solving. Questions were from Science and Maths. It was basically a mental aptitude test.&nbsp;

On Monday, 24 May 2021, Interact Club of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad, conducted a virtual Orientation Programme on “Connecting Classrooms Globally”. Along with teachers of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad, the Administrator and Teachers of Assisi, Perumpilly, also took part. In the welcome address, Ms. Sonia Peter welcomed and introduced the Resource Person, Rtn. Mr. Sunil K Zachariah, Managing Director of Futuristic Consultancies Pvt. Ltd., Cochin which is into management consulting and financial services. He began his career as a Corporate Lawyer with M/s Joseph &amp; Kuriyan and is presently an Independent Director on the Board of few Companies. The session gave us an insight into how we could connect to teachers and students around the world virtually. This would in turn help &nbsp;to learn from other cultures, and languages, etc. Students would be able to learn new things on an emotional, educational and cultural level.

Rtn. Mr. Sunil gave us few sites which offer global teacher-student conferences, educational travel &amp; experiences. To make the session interactive and interesting, the teachers were encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts. We thank the School Management for providing us with such a great opportunity. International Dimension to the School Curriculum

Assisi’s second day of the Teachers’ Orientation Programme was based on embedding International Dimension to the School Curriculum. It was conducted on 25th May at 10:30 a.m. on the Google Meet platform. The IDS Coordinators organised this workshop. Along with the teachers of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad, the Management and teaching community of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Perumpilly, too took part in this informative session. Ms. Rose Varghese was the compere of the day and the programme commenced with a prayer song by Ms. Hilda Lewis followed by the virtual lamp lighting ceremony. The welcome speech was delivered by the IDS coordinator Ms. Bindu Polat. The orientation was then taken over by the resource person Mr. Sebastian Panakal, a highly qualified trainer who is well known for his professional acumen. He is a Wiki Facilitator, Microsoft Master Trainer, Skype Master Teacher, Leader-Google Educators Group Kerala, Global Teacher Awardee and also the Chairperson of GeoGebra Garden. He briefed about his service and also enlightened about the functioning and procedures of the working process for international accreditation and how to outshine in international activities. Later, he introduced his colleague Dr. Narjeet Kaur - an eminent educator and Google Master Trainer from Punjab who further explained the functioning and process of dealing and collaborating with other partner schools to attain British Council accreditation.

Tinker CAD designing and Arduino Basics

A two-day orientation program on Tinker CAD designing and Arduino Basics was conducted by Mr. Midhun of Bibox Labs, for the teachers involved in the ATAL Tinkering Lab. It was held through online mode on 3rd &amp; 4th May 2021 from 10 AM to 12:15 PM,. The sessions were interesting. On the first day, the session was on basic knowledge regarding the history and functioning of ATAL Labs and why it has so much significance in today’s world. On the second day, there was a practical session as to how to use the Tinker CAD for designing purposes. The mentor&nbsp;was indeed patient and helpful throughout the sessions.&nbsp; The following teachers attended the Programme : &nbsp; 1. Ms. Minsa Shany 2. Ms. Priya Xavier 3. Ms. Dhanya 4. Ms. Vinaya 5. Ms. Cassetta Luiz. &nbsp; The teachers expressed their gratitude to the School Management for providing the opportunity and motivation to explore various aspects of education.

We have upgraded to the Google Workspace for Education by purchasing Licenses for the same. The faculty is taking classes on the upgraded platform. It offers advanced features like Breakout Rooms, Polling,&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Q &amp; A session, Recording and Live Stream features. This platform lets us accommodate up to 250 people. Automatic attendance generation is another feature of the upgraded platform.

The Covid pandemic has converted homes into offices, classrooms, etc. Everyone is facing so many problems due to work at home and working from home. To help the teachers create a better work-life balance, the Innovative Learning Lab at Assisi Vidyaniketan Public school did a session on Work-Life balance. Sumi John, Counsellor and her team of Special Educators at Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School took the session. She explained the meaning of work-life balance, the reasons for imbalance, benefits of work-life balance and tips to create better work-life balance. There was a video presentation on how teachers found ways to relax during their hectic work schedules. A Power Point presentation on how the members of the Management were dealing with the crisis creatively was also presented. The session started at 3 p.m. and ended at 4.30 p.m.&nbsp;

An online farewell was given during the staff meeting conducted on Friday, 28 May 2021, to the retiring teachers, Ms. Jane Jose, Ms. Mithali Ray, Mr. Varghese P A, Ms. Bessy Rosetta and Ms. Geeta Devi. Thank you, cards were handed over to the retiring teachers and a group photo was taken.

Every year, 22 April is observed as Earth Day across the globe and people and major stakeholders take part in civic activities and work towards raising awareness about critical issues that the Earth is facing. Global warming, pollution and deforestation are some of the problems routinely discussed since they pose a major threat to nature. Over 1 billion people spread across 192 countries participate in Earth Day activities each year. This makes the day the largest civic observance in the world. The theme this year is "Restore Our Earth" and its focus is on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. And therefore, the theme also rejects the belief that only mitigation and adaptation are the ways to address climate change.

KALEIDOSCOPE INTO ACTIVITIES

The various class Magazines were released in the first week of May. The magazines were given different names and it was a kaleidoscope into the activities of the academic year; beautifully capturing all the relevant activities of the year.&nbsp; &nbsp; The subject wise activities conducted by the students, Days of Observance, School Programmes, Talent Fest Events, Articles, Poems, Travelogues, Art Work, etc., were beautifully depicted in the magazine with captions and photographs.&nbsp;

On Tuesday, the 25th of May 2021, the Faculty of Learning Lab of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad conducted a virtual orientation programme on ''Boost your EQ to build and balance your career and life''. Along with the teachers of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad, the Management and Teachers of Assisi Perumpilly, also took part. Ms. Sumi John invited the resource person with the welcome address. The resource person for the programme was Mr. Joseph George, who is a Senior Regional Manager in a Multinational Company. The session helped us to understand, use and manage our own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. To make the session interactive and interesting, Mr. Joseph George introduced a Slido App with live polling which helped the teachers to be a part of the conversation at the event. We thank the School Management for providing us with such a great opportunity. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Sonia Peter.

We have to build developmental relationships with children for a better student outcome. This can be achieved by frequently practising each of the five elements of a developmental relationship. The five elements are Express Care -&nbsp;Each day, enquire about them and all the things that happened on that day. Challenge Growth – Appreciate their efforts and give tips to overcome their challenges. Push each of them to perform to their capability. Provide Support – Help them to set goals and do regular follow up. Share Power – Let their voice be heard.&nbsp;Give them a chance to make decisions. Expand Possibilities - inspire them to broaden their horizon and help them to connect with a wider world.

She threw light on her experiences and cleared all the queries of teachers. She advised the audience to conduct school activities and projects with students based on the topics taken up under the Sustainable Development Goals, to prepare time table, collaborate with foreign schools of different countries, collect evidence, take information from Google Earth and Google Art for further ideas, start documentation from the beginning, prepare and share drives with concerned teachers and students to collect evidence and prepare the Final Dossier. She morally boosted the teachers to take up this venture as a challenge. Dr. Narjeet Kaur then introduced Prof. Wiley Brazier from USA who stressed on global oneness and the need to infuse this feeling into the students. He mentioned HLWS that would provide help to achieve the IDS goals. Resource Person Prof. C.J. Joseph highlighted the need of the hour - to give importance to the character formation of students so that they are globally ready to socialise and have a feeling of integrity in them. He asked teachers to be parents to their students and stand as a role model to future citizens. Another resource person, Prof. Mathew Kora, emphasised on Social Development of the students. After the Question &amp; Answer session, the programme wound up with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Suja Varghese and the programme concluded by 11:30 am.

The third day of the orientation program, “The Reflection Day“, was hosted by the Class 1 teachers on 26th May, 2021. The session was on the topic, ‘Thoughts on St. Francis of Assisi, his works and how he continues to influence many’. The speaker for the day was Rev. Dr. Vincent Variath, a well-recognized motivational speaker. He emphasized the need to live in the present, to live with gratitude, and to live your work. The Staff and Management of Assisi School, Perumpilly, were also a part of this event. We express our sincere gratitude to the School Management for giving us such a wonderful day. &nbsp; &nbsp;

On 25th May 2021, the Kerala Commerce Forum and Logic School of Management conducted a program focused on “Career Guidance “ for the students who opted for commerce. It was held on an online platform and all the commerce students of our school were invited for attending the same. Meghna Akhilesh invited the speakers with the welcome address. The speakers were Mr. Hari Krishnan, who is a trainer, motivational speaker and career consultant in Logic School of Management and Mr. S. Devideyal, (Retd. Vice Principal, Cochin Refineries School) who was a CBSE Head Examiner and Subject Expert in Accountancy. He was also an award winner for excellent CBSE results. The session was dedicated to guiding students, on the basis of their interests and priorities, to make better career choices in the field of Commerce. The speakers also gave information regarding possible upcoming opportunities. They had a lot of experience and their guidance was definitely beneficial for all the students who attended the program. The rapport between the speakers and students was very good and the session was very interactive. All those students who earlier, had only a vague idea or who were confused about the professional courses in Commerce, would have definitely got a clearer idea of what to do next. The speakers explained the different professional courses that were available, procedures for pursuing a particular course and also highlighted the importance of hard work and determination. We thank the School Management for providing us with such a great opportunity and especially our teachers Ms. Radhika P.K. and Ms. Anu Joseph for attending the webinar with us.
