PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Parents and Students,
The new academic year has started with an avalanche of activities ranging from the days of observation to the Assisi Talent Fest Events. The Interact Club of Assisi Public School forged into the global scenario when our team consisting of Gayatri Binoj, Sanjay Sajan, Shan Harold and Nia Tharakan took part in the Four-Way debate competition conducted by Rotary, Colombo. The Interactors and their mentor teachers got great exposure when they participated in the International event. We were one among the two teams from India to participate in the event. With the guidance from the teachers, our students have started conducting the school programmes efficiently. They have started mentoring their classmates as witnessed in the Inter-House Debate competitions. This is what Assisi has always envisioned; our students donning the role of leaders and becoming self-reliant in all areas. There was active participation from our students in e-Ryla the leadership programme of Rotary. The Assisi MUN inauguration witnessed the Chief Guest, Maria Ann Mathew, sharing her experiences while working with UN. The students of Class VIII started dreaming big after listening to her speech. The students need to have goals in their life and collect information regarding the best colleges in the country which offer their dream course. The class assemblies, exercise regime, counselling sessions and book reviews are happening every week. The Curriculum Plan, Syllabus Break Up and Question Banks shared with the students should help them for the upcoming examinations. The wholehearted participation of parents, teachers and students will make Assisi raise its benchmark to the next level in the scale. Let our students spread their wings and fly high towards their goals.

USHER IN NEW BEGINNINGS!

The Opening Ceremony was conducted for all the classes on 1st, June 2021. The Assembly took place in the common classroom of various classes. It started with the Prayer Song which was sung by the School Choir followed by Welcome Speech. The Opening Prayer, which followed, provided participants with a feeling of peace and serenity. The respective Section Head conveyed her wishes and prayers to all. The auspicious moment of lighting of the lamp was done by Director, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Baiju Ben, Associate Director, Rev. Dr George Mathirappilly, Principal Ma’am, Suma Paul, Former Principal Ma’am, Helen Job and Manager, Roy Kurisingal. Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Baiju Ben rendered an inspiring speech appreciating the parents, students and the school faculty for coping up with the current challenging scenario which involves the “Online Platform”. The speech was followed by intercessory prayers by the students.

The theme of the Academic Year 2021-2022, “BE REFLECTIVE AND RESILIENT” was represented by a theme song composed by the School's Music Department.Principal, Suma Paul Ma’am, conveyed a very apt message in regard to the current dependence and necessity of the online platforms. This was followed by video presentation regarding the school theme. Finally, the School Assembly concluded with a prayer followed by the Vote of Thanks. The National Anthem marked the end of a very memorable Opening Ceremony and we can all look forward to the new academic year with new hope and rejuvenated spirits.

ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION

The theme of World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ with the slogan ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore’. It was observed on Saturday, 5 June 2021. The activities showcased by our children include making placards, posters, animations, videos and PPT’S. Song and dance performances and poem writing etc. There was a video presentation of this year’s Environment Day Theme – ‘ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION.’ It gave an insight into the grave situation we are in and gave a strong message to heal our Mother Earth by following the three R’s – ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore’. The two activities done by the students, like Cloth bag making, using old fabric and setting potted plants in old and discarded containers were presented in the class with a lot of enthusiasm on the part of the students. The response to these activities was overwhelming. The Theme Song about ‘Mother Earth’ enlivened the mood of the students and also inspired them to carry on the mission of Ecosystem Restoration throughout the year. https://online.fliphtml5.com/evogt/ztvr/#p=1

MEET THE CANDIDATE, 2021

Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School held ‘Meet the Candidate’ on 9 June 2021 at 4:00 pm on the google meet platform. The event was live streamed. The programme began with the prayer song. First the nominees of Vice-Captaincy and then the nominees of Captaincy delivered their speeches. The candidates declared their loyalty to the school and the post that they were contesting for. The speeches were followed by a Q & A session where the audience were given the opportunity to ask their questions to the candidates. 10 minutes were allotted for the session. School Principal, Ms. Suma Paul, addressed the students and the candidates. In the speech, she wished the candidates all success and praised their oratory skills. She also motivated them to keep up their high spirit. The event came to a close by 5:15 pm with the National Anthem.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

“Leadership is the ability to translate vision into reality”
The newly elected Student Council of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School took office on 16 June, 2021 in the Investiture Ceremony conducted through the online platform. Ms. Suma Paul, the Principal, delivered the welcome address and congratulated the new office bearers. This was followed by the presentation of Election Report by Ms. Binu M J (HOD, English). The new Captains and Vice Captains took charge of their office by taking an oath. The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Beena Job, Associate Professor and former HOD of English Department, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam graced the occasion. The Chief Guest addressed the Captains and motivated them to work as a team. Thereafter, the co-curricular activities for the academic year 2021-22 were inaugurated. The programme concluded with felicitation by Ms. Lydia Mary Avin (Former School Captain) and a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Maria Josephine K (Student of Class XII). The enthusiasm and high spirit shown by the teachers and the students added more colour and charm to the event.

“Read Every Day, Lead A Better Life”.

Reading Day is celebrated to commemorate the person who started the library movement in India- the late P.N Paniker on his death anniversary, which falls on June 19th. On Reading Day, Students of class XI hosted a special virtual assembly to pay respect to this great personality. Students got an insight into why reading is so important and how it plays an important role in daily life. The program started with the inspiring words of Samrin Sajith on how books open up into a new world of imagination. Going into the event, we had a review by Stephenie Joseph on the book, “And Then There Were None” written by Agatha Christie. Following it a song was melodiously sung by Ardra Sunil. The program ended with a beautiful presentation by students on interesting facts and information about the importance of this day. This event was Truly, as a whole, an amazing one! So let’s not take Reading as a chore but as an opportunity to widen our perspective.

Yoga adds years to your life, and life to your years.

Our school held a Virtual Yoga Session for the students of class 8 on 21 June, 2021 and this event was live-streamed to the entire school. This year's theme for International Yoga Day was "Yoga For Wellness" and the focus was on practising Yoga for physical and mental well-being. The program commenced at 8:45 A.M. The Physical Education Department emphasized the significance of yoga in our daily life, as it helps people lead a better life with elevated physical, mental and spiritual health. School yoga Instructor, Ms. Shobha, demonstrated different Asanas like Vajrasana, Uttanasana, and Ardha Chakrasana and students also took part. She also reminded students to do Yoga Asanas every day to reinforce immunity. The program wrapped up with the National Anthem.

Life doesn't rewind

As we all know Anti Drugs day is observed on June 26th every year. Like every year, this time too our school had organized a programme based on this to create awareness among students. The students from different classes made presentations, delivered speeches, performed role play and many more meaningful activities. The programme started with seeking the blessings of the Almighty. Then Tarun Mathew of class IX C presented the subject. Later students of class IX exhibited their posters, slogans and even performed a role play. Alexander M. Arun of class IX A and Noureen Rasheed of class IX D delivered speeches. Abhinav A of class IX A exhibited a presentation based on Anti Drugs Day. Finally, the programme was concluded by taking an oath which was led by Harsha Susan of class IX C.
