The Confident Cat and the Docile DogLoading...
A Fable by Mrs. PackLoading...
A cat and a dog lived in a cozy house together with their owners.
The cat spent his day climbing all over the furniture. He balanced on the back of the sofa, walked a careful line between the flower vases, and climbed high up on the bookshelves to see what he could see.
"Why do you love to walk so precariously, cat?" the dog asked one day. "Your tricks seem awfully dangerous," he said. "You should be more like me. I nap on the rug, watch the mailman out the window, and sit by the door waiting for our owners to get home."
"Poor, stupid dog," scoffed the cat. "I live for the danger of walking up high! I love to take risks by climbing among breakable things. After all, I never fall, do I? No, not once! I am the best at balancing out of any animal, ever."

"You sound awfully proud," sighed the dog. He went to lay down safely by the door.
