Edito's letter
Hello ! We are Jean de Berry students, we are members of the European Class. Today, we are happy to present you our first magazine, which is about many different topics around :
- professional articles
- cultural articles
This magazine is an exercise for us to improve our writing expression and we hope that it will be very interesting for you to discover our articles. This magazine will be edited 3 times, each school term so one in December, one around March, and the last one around May.
To create this magazine, we first had to discuss about the different topics we will choose, we had several meetings to choose the name of this magazine and also the titles of our articles, look for information on the net about our topics, interview some people, and finaly write the articles ! All this took us about 2 months ! This is hard work !
We do hope that this magazine will satisfy you.
So in this first magazine, you will find :
- 2 articles about professional field : one about joinery and one about architecture
- 5 or 6 articles about culture : 3 about rap music and 3 about sports
- 1 article about our students representatives
- one interview : our American assistant, Hailey Thank you for us !

Introduction : We are a group of 3 French students, we study joinery, our names are : Jérémie, Florian and Eric. We’re students in the vocational school Jean de Berry specialized in construction. It’s situated in Bourges (18), in the center of France. Our mission is to create a magazine to help you discover some aspects of our future job, but also various articles related to current events. And all this in a good mood ! Part 1 (History) : Hey you ! In this article we’ll speak about our professional field, the joinery. This job has existed since more than 5000 years. That’s a long time ! Maybe your egyptian ancestor made his own grave !
Part 2 (Article 1) : But what’s joinery ? It’s not what you think ! We don’t only work with wood, but with PVC and aluminium. The joiner fits kitchen and bath units, he lays wooden floor, he works wood to make doors, windows, chairs, tables, shutters, staircases,…
For you, where does the joiner work ?
He can work in the workshop, on a building site or at a client’s home.

Quartier Baudens
HISTORY : The Baudens hospital built in 1875 was very used during the world war one and it closed in june 1997.
GOAL : The goal today to is restore the building on the ecodistrict . For that all the ideas are accepted.
PROJECT : our class participates at this project and we visited the site last November . We took measures . These measures will be used to work on our software Autocad. We will have to create different flats. This project must be finish for june.

This school year the third year class in joinery is going to make a masterwork.
Our BTECH National Diploma project is to build a boat for the association of the swamps in Bourges.
Our class has to make a traditional wooden boat.To make it waterproof, we must cault it as it used to be with a tar rope.
It will measure 4m long, 1.10m wide and 45cm deep. The boat will be made of Douglas fir and oak.
