Lia's first roadtripLoading...
By Jaimie McCann

On Friday, September 10th Lia was turning 7 years old. Her Mother asked her what she wanted for her birthday and all she said was " I want to drive until we see mountains".
"I don't want to bike".
"I don't want to fly".
"And I most definitely don't want to walk" Lia said.
Were going to the mountains
Let's use our imagination
To her mom's surprise, Lia was not budging on her wish for her birthday. Lia has been obsessed with maps and exploring the world ever since she was a little girl. For her last birthday, she asked for a map of the world poster that she could put up in her bedroom and could one day put pins in all the places she has been to. Her dream was to one day see the whole world. So, knowing that the Arizona Grand Canyon was only 5 hours away, her mom and dad decided to take her. However, to make it a little more exciting, they were not going to tell her where they were going exactly but she would be given clues along the way and a book full of maps that she could use to figure out the clues. When Lia found out they were going on a road trip, she was so excited she couldn't stop asking questions!
" Are we going somewhere with a beach!?, " No" said Lia's mom.

" A place with a lot of buildings and people?!", "not quite" said Lia's dad.
" ARE WE GOING TO SEE SOME CAMEL'S?!" screamed Lia, " No Lia!" yelled her little brother, " I might not make it through this car ride if you keep screaming like that!".
After everyone was loaded up into the van, Lia's family started driving as the sun came up. Lia was so excited she couldn't sleep the night before so she packed everything she would need to figure out where they were going. She opened her map, got her markers out, found where their house was and started following with her finger they drove. "Dad" called Lia, " Are we headed North or South right now?". "Hmm, I thought you would never ask" Chuckled Lia's dad, "Here is your first clue" giggled Lia's mom as she hands her a compass, "It was your father's when he was your age" Said her mom.
