What's a food community and how can we make ours better? Here is where we'll answer your questions. Hello, Global peers! We are class 624 of MS172. In this book, we'll tell you about what kinds of food you can get, how easy it is to get food, how much our food costs and how our school and neighborhood community can improve food security.
Our food community is an important part of us. We value our food here because of all the cultures and religions people brought with food. Our food community works hard to make sure we eat healthy, delicious meals and some sweets here and there. We have food banks, restaurants, fast food, delis and supermarkets to ensure us. Though, we have high prices for healthy meals. Despite that, food security is something we regard highly and aim to improve. We are working to enhance our food security, for the sake of our community.
Our school is near Glen Oaks. Also, our schools Basketball team is the Grizzlies!

In our school, food can be served in the cafeteria. We can usually eat breakfast at around 7:00-7:45 AM, and lunch which goes from around 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Food is provided to all students during their lunch period and can simply be received by waiting in a short line. You can also eat at after school because they serve food there in case the after school students get hungry. There are also vending machines providing snacks which do cost money, but nothing more then $2. Our meals have several of the food groups, and some may even have all. Plus, if you don't like one meal it changes daily! Other then the times they repeat meals like once every two weeks.

At M.S. 172, the food from the cafeteria is free. There is free breakfast, lunch and supper. The food served is healthy and free which is a very good thing. Sometimes, healthy food can be more expensive but we believe that healthy food should be given to everyone no matter the cost. As for the vending machines, the extra snacks do not cost much. The cost has a range of $1.00 - $1.25. There is also a school store that the students can purchase snacks as well using grizzly bucks which can be won in school competitions.
