Stanley Yelnats: Big kid, bad luck, generally nice, is bullied at school, convicted of a crime he did not commit and was sent to Camp Green Lake

Zero: Good at digging, bullied by the counselors and thought to be stupid,

Warden: She runs Camp Green Lake, very intimidating, not very nice. She has kids dig to find a chest.

The two main problems are that Stanley is convicted of a crime that he did not do. And he is sent to Camp Green Lake The second main problem at the end of the story is that his friend Zero had ran away from the camp. Stanley also ran away from camp to save Zero and bring him back.

The book Holes by Louis Sachar is about a boy named Stanley. Stanley was born into a poor family and had a father that devoted his life to finding the cure for foot odor. There is also a boy named Hector who is homeless and was separated from his mom. Since Hector was homeless he went to a homeless shelter were Clyde Livingston, a professional baseball player had donated some shoes to that homeless shelter. Hector not having much guidance most of his life got the idea to steal the shoes. When he stole the shoes people called the cops. As Hector was running he heard a cop car from behind so he threw the shoe off an overpass. The shoes landed next to Stanley, he thought this was a gift from God to help his father find the cure to foot odor, so he took the shoes. The cops arrested Hector, then soon after found Stanley with the shoes and arrested him too. In Stanley's court case the judge told him he could go to jail or Camp Green Lake, he chose Camp Green Lake. Stanley did not think it would be bad but he was mistaken. At Camp Green Lake he had to dig a hole five feet wide and five feet deep everyday. He also met some people at camp named Zero who is Hector, Zigzag, X-ray, and Armpit. The warden had them digging for something, something very valuable. There was no lake at Camp Green Lake it was a desert. After a couple of weeks Zero and Stanley became friends. Stanley and Zero made a deal that Zero would dig part of Stanley's hole and Stanley would teach Zero to read. As more time went on with Zero digging part of Stanley's holes the boys started to tease Stanley by saying "Zero was his worker".

Zigzag got so mad that he fought Stanley and was beating him up, then Zero jumped up onto Zigzag and choked him. The warden showed up to see what happened and Zigzag told her why he was upset, that's when the warden found out about Stanley and Zero's deal. After that Mr.Pendanski started to bully Zero about how stupid he was. So Zero picked up a shovel and hit Mr.Pendanski with it and ran into the desert. Then about a week later Stanley built up the courage to sneak in Mr. Sir's truck while he was filling up the boys water bottles and then he drove off. He did this because he wanted to try and save Zero. But soon after he drove into a hole and the truck crashed...

I feel this book is very interesting. It really shows how some of the best things come from the worst situations.

I would really recommend this book because it is very suspenseful. You never know when someone might get really lucky or someone might have the worst luck ever.

This book showed how important friendship is and how it can effect people.

Camp Green Lake may sound like a fun place but camp isn't always about fun and games. This camp is about correction and rehabilitation.

Camp Green Lake is a very hot and dry place. The camp also has rattle snakes, scorpions, and yellow spotted lizards roaming around. The kids have to work in these harsh conditions. The reason why is crazy!

About Louis Sachar

Louis Sachar was born in East Meadow New York on March 20 1954. Louis Sachar was a good student and enjoyed school. When Louis Sachar was nine years old he moved to Tustin California. When he got to high school he started to read more. After high school he went to Antioch College in Ohio. But very soon after this his father died, so he returned to California to be with his mom. He needed money so he became a fuller brush man which means he went to peoples houses and sold them cleaning products. After being successful with that for a while he decided to go to University of California. He majored in economics. During his time at university he took a flyer that said that the teachers at an elementary school needed help. He took this class to get at first, but then he did it to be around the kids and help them. when he graduated in 1976, that's also when he wrote his first children book. He graduated law school in 1980, he was also still writing books during law school. It was not until almost ten years that his books started selling.He soon after in 1985 got married to his wife named Carla. Their first child named Sherre was born in 1987.
