Why Waste?

Although she faced some resistance from restaurant staff, Garvita never felt her age to be a limitation. Quite the opposite: “The best ideas come from people like us, people our age,” says Garvita. “We have fresh, growing and innovating minds.”

What is something you want to change about your world?

This experience of leading young inspired Garvita to help other young people see that they can also step up. “You can’t just expect things to happen, if you want to see something change, you need to get up and go take charge.” Dozens of her peers are more eager to understand problems they see around them and find ways to take action. To Garvita, the world needs all of us—especially young people—to lead positive change. “They say that change is the only constant,” says Garvita, “But I think now this world is in constant need of changemakers.”

Meet Garvita Gulhati, a young changemaker from India, helping students in her high school see that age is not a limit to solving problems you care about. At age 15, she did just that. . .&nbsp;

A changemaker is a person who desires change in the world, and by gathering knowledge and resources, makes that change happen!

She started with restaurants, where fourteen&nbsp;million gallons of water are wasted per year&nbsp;in India. Garvita started the #GlassHalfFull movement to negate this water waste.&nbsp; Through this initiative Garvita has been able to change the mindsets of over 500,000 restaurants, 800 schools, and 2.5 million people. While also saving over 5 million liters of water from being wasted.

Why does changemaking matter? Our world is rapidly changing – and we all experience this change every day. The unprecedented moment we are living in challenges us to rethink how we are contributing&nbsp; towards a happier, healthier, and more equitable world. To thrive, we all need to be equipped with a new set of skills to adapt and create change.&nbsp;Anyone at any age can have an idea, form a team, and change their world for the better,&nbsp;and starting young can lead to a lifetime of changemaking.

After a severe drought in India she started “Why Waste?,” an organization educating citizens about creative ways to reduce water waste. Over 100 million children in homes across India did not have access to water.

Garvita could not have done it without the help of her friends and allies. She made sure that collaborative leadership was a structure of her team and that everyone was a leader to help inspire a bigger movement.&nbsp;
