Edpuzzle

EDpuzzle is an innovative site that lets you take just about any video, edit it down to the portions you want, add audio notes and questions for students, and create virtual classrooms where you can monitor individual student work.
There is a free and a paid version.

You can use the Edpuzzle chrome extension to turn almost any video into an interactive learning experience for your students.

Use Edpuzzle to create an interactive maths tutorial to explain a concept or a strategy. Add stops to check understanding.

Or... get your students to use Edpuzzle to explain their thinking and identify the important steps needed to solve a problem.

Ted Ed Riddles

Ted Ed riddles are engaging and fun videos that pose a problem, many of them maths based, for you to solve. After a pause they go on to explain the solutions.

Insert a video into Google Slides. (Copy the URL from You Tube.)
Use video format options to play just parts of the video.

Chunk the video on different slides. Play the riddle on one slide, and the solution on the next. Add a slide in between for students to show their thinking.

They can explain their thinking and justify the strategies they used.
They can also screen record and upload images of their work.
It's awesome for encouraging oral language development.

Screencastify + Maths Learning Centre Apps

Students use Screencastify to screen record their work in the app showing the steps they take to solve a problem.
They explain their thinking as they go and justify the steps they broke the problem down into.
They can also record gifs with screencastify.

Apps available: clock, number frames, number line, number pieces, number rack, fractions, geoboard, pattern shapes and vocabulary cards.

Google Slides

Use the master slide view to create a scaffold for students to use to decompose a maths problem.
Students could include screenshots, images, voice recordings or gifs as evidence of their thinking.

By using the master slide option you can also create a number of templates that students can choose from - creating differentiated opportunities and student choice.

Top Tip:

Students can highlight the words that are important in a word problem.

You can also use the master slide option to create mazes and games. What path might you create for your students?

Add your problems in the master view and then add a text box for them to enter their answers.
You could also share a template with your students and get them to build the maze. This is a great way to see what common misconceptions students have.

Use videos to encourage listening,
Create videos of maths riddles or tasks. Students have to listen to them rather than read them.

Duplicate the slide and hide the answer under an image which they move to check if they were correct. This means they can get instant feedback and helps build student agency.

Use Google Slides to create interactive elements where students can select appropriate tools to show their learning.

Google Slides can be used to create a series of slides that allow students to travel their own journey.
You can provide tutorial videos and activities for students to practise their new skills.
This helps develop student agency and encourages them to think about their own learning.
Tailor the slides to the interests of your students.
