Once upon a time, in a faraway land called Livádi, lived many plants and animals that lived together in harmony. There were all types of plant species, birds, rabbits, insects, and many more.

One particular plant was a sunflower that lived with her parents. The sunflower’s name was Sam, and she was more eager than any other plant in the entire meadow. Sam, her siblings and both parents were Maximilian sunflowers and as happy as could be.

“But when will I bloom?” Sam cried one day. Sam and her brothers had not reached to full bloom yet and was very anxious to get to that stage.
“Growing into a fully matured flower takes a lot more than age. All the other living things can help you, and you must be in a good state yourself,” Mother replied.
“I don’t need any living things other than you and Father. You’ll always be here to teach and watch us bloom,” Sam stated.
“One day Sam,” Father began, “You must learn to live on without me, without both of us.”

Sam thought about what their father said a lot. Neither her nor her other siblings understood what he meant. Would Father and Mother leave them? Or, would they send them away? Of course not! Father and Mother loved them and they would never leave them. At least, Sam desperately hoped not.

As the sun came up the next morning, Sam woke up thinking that she would spread her flower petals out and finally bloom. That didn’t happen, but Sam didn’t dwell on it too long. She was still thinking about what their parents said and wondering how to talk to them about it when tragedy struck.
