I love the deep contrast of black and white here, representing the contrast between the two worlds

I started this piece by sketching the scene. I then used inks to add the colours. I felt the inks worked really well as the colour came up extremely vibrant. It was also nice to create fluidity within the picture with the inks, which was representative of these two worlds flowing into one another.

I used watercolour pencils for the green on the countries. starting with a darker green on the outside, gradually getting lighter towards the middle and putting a small bit of white in the middle to create depth. I love how watercolour flows and blends. The use of watercolour here was inspired by Georgia O'Keffee. 

I went in with a lighter to burn around the edges. This was also part of my risk taking and challenging myself to try things that are a bit out of my control. The idea of controlling the fire is also representative of my theme and how we must try to control our worlds and what we interpret our worlds to be. I love the rustic look of the burnt edges, which symbolizes no one's world or life is perfect, we're all a bit rough around the edges. 

Georgia O'Keeffe - Music, Pink and Blue No.2 I love the colours in this piece and how they compliment one another. These colours remind me of the colours within our galaxy and therefore related to microcosmic for me.

I really enjoyed creating these three pieces according to the word microcosmic. I initially thought that my three pieces would be related to one another and ultimately, that they would influence each other with regard to the word, as I like when things tie in together. Yet, this is not the approach I took, which surprised me. Rather, I looked at the word from three completely different points of view. I also took a lot of risks here, particularly with regard to my first piece as I rarely use just pencil, yet I did a full pencil piece, with little colour, which is again something I would usually not do. I tried my best to challenge myself here and tap into the creative habits of mind that I needed to work on such as developing different techniques, rather than sticking simply just to what I know and that I am comfortable with. Other creative habits of mind which I needed to work on were giving and receiving feedback and sharing my work. I also worked on these with regard to this project as I presented my third piece and received feedback on it at the end of the semester. I found it very beneficial to speak about my pieces with my peers throughout the process also, as it helped to clarify the ideas in my head. They also gave me feedback which I took on board. I loved researching and discovering different artists with regard to my different pieces too. One artist in particular that I fell in love with was Georgia O'Keeffe. I overall, really enjoyed the process of this whole journey. I feel as if I have really developed as an artist through risk taking and learning new skills, while enjoying myself in making three pieces that I love.

&nbsp;Étienne Léopold Trouvelot&nbsp;- The Great Comet 1881 Beautiful piece of work that makes one think. What is out there beyond our own little worlds? Seeing something like a comet or a shooting star makes one realise how truly small we are compared to whats out there in the great unknown

WASSILY KANDINSKY - Composition VI This piece inspired me as I believe a lot of Kandinsky's work is down to personal interpretation, much like how we interpret our own worlds. I also love the colour scheme here and the use of oil pastels.

Critical prologue The theme I chose was microcosmic. I was initially drawn to this word as I immediately associated it with space and galaxies, which is something that I find very interesting. I then began to research and brainstorm the words to deepen my understanding. According to Oxford Dictionary, this means ‘a thing, a place or a group that has all the features and qualities of something much larger’ or ‘human beings, humanity, society, or the like, viewed as an epitome or miniature of the world or universe’ (1989). I found this very interesting as it made me think about how minute we are, compared to the grand scheme of things. Which ultimately made me think back my initial idea of galaxies and outer space, and just how tiny we are in comparison. We are all living within our own little worlds that we have created for ourselves through what we believe and see and everybody’s world is different. Ultimately, we are the artists of out own microcosms. I also felt by exploring this broad theme I would have an opportunity to explore different techniques and skills within my own artistic style. For my last year of my specialist course, I wanted to take risks and be daring as an artist. In order to take risks, I must learn to place process over product (Briskman,1980), as I would when teaching in schools. In order to engage in the creative process and work on my weaker creative habits of mind I must be open to the idea of taking risks, which I believe would be an interesting journey within the theme of microcosmic.&nbsp;

I used a scalpel to apply the paint onto the mountains very heavily. I wanted to create texture here to show the rockiness of mountains.
