In 2050 there was a teenage girl called Ella Hurley, she came from Sydney, Australia. The situation there was now stable after the pandemic crisis that happened 30 years ago. However this pandemic left a peculiar feeling that changed the Australian society forever. People now would rather work from home, in fear of a new virus coming, which was possible thanks to the technological improvements (finally a good internet connection).

But this one girl wasn’t afraid, she wanted to discover the world. So when she was on her summer break, she decided to travel and visit her internet friends all over the world : Tahiti, Italy and Czech Republic.
“Hi friends, be ready. May this trip begin!”

Chapter 1 : Ia orana
Loading...
One day, Ella Hurley visited her friends Anahei LABADIE-LAFFORGUE, Teiva LAINE, Hinavei LIAO, Manui YANSAUD in Tahiti.

*Ia orana and welcome to Tahiti, I hope you’ve had a peaceful flight and that you will choose our company the next time you travel*

The plane has finally landed and I was so happy to be there, to think that I could meet my friends in real life! When I got out of the plane, the first thing I saw was Tahitian women dancing in traditional dresses behind a bay window. The immigration control was pretty well organised, we were divided in lines with a distance of 3 feet between each of us. Right after that, they made us wash our hands for the luggage claim and once I got my red luggage, I ran to the exit and was welcome with someone screaming my name and running towards me with flowers necklace, and before I could do anything, I was hugged between two strong arms and I realised that it was Manui.

When I got out of the hug, which was surprising considering the situation in Australia where we still respect the social distancing, I took my mask off (that was mandatory in every airports).

“G’day mate, he joked, let’s go meet the others”
Then, we took a cab and went to Manui’s house where Teiva, Hinavei and Anahei were waiting for us, and where I received a warm welcome without any social distancing.

“Wow I didn’t expect that at all! I exclaimed.
-What do you mean? Hinavei asked.
-I am not used to hug people. I replied.
-Well, we are pretty chill about the situation here in Tahiti, I mean, apparently we were not that much affected by the pandemic. Said Teiva.
-Yeah, even in school, the only difference is that now we are alone on a table whereas before the pandemic, my parents told me that before there were 2 students sitting next to each other. Continued Anahei.
-Wow seriously? In Australia it’s definitely different, people are very scared and prefer to isolate themselves from the others. Most kids are homeschooled and find hobbies that they can do indoors like painting, cooking, etc.” Was my answer.

Then I heard some footsteps coming from outside, it was Hinavei’s mother : Jade, she is a doctor.
“Hi kids ! Hinavei, did you get your annual vaccin yesterday ? She asked.
-Yes mom, how was your night shift ?
-Pretty good, we didn’t have a lot of emergencies, only a few worried parents.
-Okay, well this is my friend Ella from Australia we met online !
-Hi ! It’s so nice to meet you ma’am. I said happily
-Tell me what do you think about Tahiti ?
-It’s really nice and people are really outgoing ! It’s almost weird for me. After that I explained the “hug” episode.
-Oh ok, it definitely must be really different from Australia! She replied.
-Yes ! Ella told us that most teenagers were spending their spare time indoors whereas here we spend a lot of time outdoors. Said Teiva.
Manui continued and talked about the activities he usually does:

-Teiva is so right ! For example I love going for a walk or hiking with friends or going surf.
-Yes we also like to go to the movie theatre or to the beach, we never really stay indoors with friends ! Anahei added.
Hearing that I was really surprised and shocked by the difference between us, I mean how we deal with this “Covid-19 situation”.

-Wow guys I’m really impressed, I can’t imagine how fun this is ! I would love to do that with my friends one day. We can really say that our two countries didn’t evolved the same way after the crisis.
-Yes dear, I know the situation wasn’t the same everywhere and as a result each country developed their economy, education... differently. Jade told me while smiling at me sadly.
After that day, we spent so much time outdoors and I felt like I learned how to live in a whole different way. But all good things come to an end and I had to leave this little paradise to discover the rest of the world.

Next step : Italy, here I come.
Chapter 2: Italy
*Just a few minutes and i will land in Italy, a country i have never visited but i can't wait to visit. Especially because i will meet my friends Sara Salzillo and Sophia Xhaferri here! i'm so excited!!!!*

The hostesses asked us to wear the belt because we were about to land.

The plane stopped definitively. I waited for the other hasty passengers to leave so that i could take my mask, wear it and then take my luggage and head like everyone else at the exit.

After passing the checks i went to the airport bar, i needed a good coffee, and Italy was the best country for it.
While I was sipping with calm my coffee, Sara warned me that they were waiting for me in the center of Milan.
So I left the airport and stopped a taxi asking him to take me to the city center.
While I was in the taxi, i disinfected my hands looking at the city outside the window.
Then I took the phone and I looked at the photos taken during the trip to Tahiti, I already miss that magnificent sea and my dear friends!
I finally got there and from far I saw two girls who were greeting me with the hand, they were my two friends Sara and Sophia.

Sara was running, she wanted to embrace me strong and I was so happy, Sophia also was coming towards me.
I said: "Girls, i am so happy to see you!" they smiled me and we started to walk the Milan crowd streets.
There were many people: different were going shopping, others were seated at bars and others were walking the streets, hanging out with friends.
I saw that the most elderly people was wearing the mask while young people looked less worried , in fact they didn't wear it
In the meantime, the girls were talking to me about their hobbies and about what italian teenagers usually do to have fun.
Sophia said: "The most common leisure among the teenagers is the disco,my mom tells me that the disco has changed over the years in fact no more than 60 people can enter per evening, than outside the disco there is a machine to hygienize hands, and bodiguards measure the fever. Lastly there are no more special guests, such as singers, but there is only music that is made by the dj".
I was thunderstruck but actually the same was happening in my loved Sydney
