Irena Lukšić says about her book that she wanted to show the city streets and squares immortalized by writers in their works, information that is not in luxury tourist brochures, atlases and encyclopedias, descriptions of local sights seen through the eyes of our authors, but also literary critics, university lecturers and "ordinary" readers.

"Whether one accepts the notion of sustainability as a theoretical concentration of long-term considerations, one must accept that the term offers wonderful ground for discussion, reflection, and formulation of strategic directions and individual policies. Sustainability, in the view of the editors of this edition, has the potential to offer a perspective, a tool for action, perhaps even a vision. In this sense, it goes beyond the criticisms, objections and protests of the new social movements and enters the fields of politics for good.

In other words, by targeting the sustainable city, on the one hand, you are negotiating the outline of a utopia, but on the other hand, you are obliged to negotiate issues related to the most material form of everyday life: issues of leisure and work, appropriation and use of public space, improvement of traffic conditions, , reduction of pollution and noise, reconstruction of nature in the city and even issues of aesthetics, culture and social justice that are heard less every day but are claimed on a daily basis. Sustainable, thus defined, appears to be the opposite of lifeless and transcends mere survival."
