Long ago, the Triglav region of Slovenia was not as rocky and rough as it is today. There were not even mountains at all. It was an exquisite meadow filled with wild goats and fairies. Their ruler, Zlatorog, was a majestic ibex with shining golden horns. Zlatorog guarded a secret treasure that lied beneath the Bogatin mountains. If Zlatorog was ever injured, a healing, pinkish-red flower (the Triglavska Roža) would emerge from the ground where his blood was spilled.

One Trenta hunter called Goran knew about the secret treasure. Goran was deeply in love with the inkeeper's daughter called Ana but one unfortunate day, a rich merchant from Venice called Antonio came to the inn. Antonio showered Ana with gifts and money and eventually Ana refused Goran's flowers. Outraged, Goran decided to try to kill Zlatorog and steal his treasure. Goran aimed his bow and shot Zlatorog. Goran sprinted to the treasure and just as he was about to take it, Zlatorog ate the flower from his blood and stood up, instantly healed. Zlatorog dashed towards Goran and pushed him off the cliff.
Zlatorog was so furious that he chased away all the brainless goats and reckless fairies. He destroyed the beautiful land and made the rocky Triglav mountains we know today. Zlatorog still remains guarding his secret treasure in the Bogatin mountains. Here the Triglavska Roža continues to grow.
