Desertification
According to the definition of the United Nations, desertification is a phenomenon in which land is eventually turned into a desert state due to a decrease or destruction of its biological potential. the productivity of the soil decreases in other forms.
As a result, vegetation destruction, soil erosion, and soil deterioration cause the problem of starvation in human society.
Specifically, the productivity of the pasture decreases, dry agriculture becomes impossible, and the irrigated land becomes spoiled due to the salt damage of water or causes a decrease in the productivity of the soil. In recent years, the world's deserts are gradually expanding, and this desertification phenomenon tends to be artificially promoted not only by natural climate change, but also by the deforestation of trees around the desert or the progress of arable land.

The United Nations held the UN Desert Conference in Nairobi, Kenya in 1977 to review the prevention of desertification and to promote prevention measures on a global scale. The Convention for the Prevention of Desertification was adopted in 1996 for the purpose of protecting the global environment through prevention, and as of February 2000, 161 countries including Korea have joined.
