Snake Poem
By Arthur H
Nothing was out of place,
The sun, glinting rays through the canopy,
Wind barely disturbing the lower fronds,
The deer nuzzling gently at unseen shoots on the forest floor.
The deer pranced silently down the endless road of trees,
As its hoofs go ‘Crunch, Crunch!’
Who has seen such a creature?
Who has seen such beauty?
Nothing noticed the change,
The birds falling silent from their airy vantage points,
Invisible rodents scurrying into invisible holes,
A blade of grass twitching in the absence of a breeze.
Nothing prepared the deer for the strike,
A glimpse of fawn geometry in the corner of its eye,
The irresistible squeeze of the python’s embrace…
And the shoots grew on, unnuzzled.

The Piggy
by Ben A
Piggy,Piggy snorting loud,
Clever, sensitive and proud,
Rolling, rolling round all day,
In the mud but not the hay.
Who made you, O pig so fair,
With so very little hair?
But your feelings are profound,
Whilst you dig and dig the ground.
Who dared make that such round nose,
Striking such a jaunty pose?
And when thy head began to think,
Did you wish “O make me pink”
Did you wish for four small trotters,
For you to take on endless potters?
Did you make thy wiggly tail,
Just to bash against the pail?
“Why am I misunderstood”?
Goes the pig who’s in the wood,
Why the man think I’m so dumb,
When I’ve never sucked my thumb?

Southern Greenland Shark
By Henry B
O you, Southern Greenland Shark,
You that dwell in the dark,
When you grow old and wise,
You can finally visualise
The destruction caused by humankind,
Even though you are partly blind.
We should be able to see,
Others want to have mercy.
Whilst some catch you in the sea,
and sell you at the faire;
But everything that breaths air,
Knows next to nothing about you.
O you, Southern Greenland Shark,
When you are old enough to finally embark
on your own journey across the sea,
The fish you meat will guarantee,
Your chance of survival is good;
But, because you are misunderstood,
People will drag you up,
And you will have to migrate down
Into the safety of the depths
And one by one, these little steps
Will help you live.
