Ferragosto as we do not know it, as a day in which parties and trips are organized, was born during the Fascist twenty years. The Fascist regime, from 13 to 15 August, organized hundreds of popular trips and railway offers to allow everyone to visit the various Italian locations.
Ferragosto derives from the ancient Feriae Augusti, a festivity that was celebrated in ancient Rome.
Ferragosto is a public holiday celebrated on August 15 throughout Italy, in San Marino and in the Canton of Ticino
why is it called that
The etymology of the term Ferragosto derives from the ancient Feriae Augusti, a festivity that was celebrated in ancient Rome. The feast was in honor of Augustus and the name, which means the rest of Augustus, also gives its name to the month.
WHAT WE DO
August 15th is traditionally dedicated to packed lunches, barbecues, trips out of town, bonfires, fireworks displays, and, given the seasonal heat, to refreshing dips in swimming pools, marine, river or lake waters.
