Fired Up

"Okay, next we will have to figure out how to get to your place Brittny, we would have to assume that spider thing is at your house," I said. I felt a sense of leadership and wanted to give myself a pat on the back. "let's grab some walkie-talkies from the minimart, just remember. we have all the time in the world" Maddie said. "ok, but when do you want to see your parents again?! it's not like we have been talking nonstop about how some of our parents could be dead and we are just waiting because we supposedly have ALL the time in the world to kill that beast so no one else has to worry about their family members being HALF-DEAD ZOMBIES! I've seen that thing with my own eyes and It is not something that you can just wait for, I bet it gets stronger and stronger every day. and i. i..." Brittny busted out crying with her locket inside her hand. it was a necklace her mom gave to her before she passed away. " I've already lost one, so there is no way I'm going to take any chances with the other"

"let's figure out a plan to get there, I don't think that we are going to run through the piles of zombies and somehow survive," I said with a slight smile "I say we make a distraction, we can have one of us lead the zombies away from the house, we would need someones who has speed," Maddie said "I think we know the obvious answer... ME!, I am the fastest in our class and have plenty of stamina," Brittny exclaimed "Are you sure you want to risk your life just to show off how fast you are, it's dangerous out there," I said "what? do guys not think I'm fast or like something else" Brittny said, "just don't get your brains eaten out okay?" Maddie muttered, "you got it!" Brittny said

Then all of a sudden I heard a brief notice in the distance. It was coming for my kitchen. She looked at me and gave me a look of fear. All of a sudden I hear a pan hit the floor, hard. As I slowly walked into the kitchen I grabbed a pencil. It was the only sharp object I had in my house that was not in the kitchen. Without hesitance, I jumped and stabbed the figure in my kitchen. Then as I opened my eyes I jumped and saw a rat, but not an ordinary rat, the size of a pillow. Maddie slowly walked into the kitchen and let out a small scream.

She whispered “what is that?”, I told her it was some kind of rat. At this point, I was starting to believe Maddie, was the zombie apocalypse really happing? Was Maddie telling the truth? She then said, “ I just looked through the window, Asher's house is covered in zombies. Do you think he's okay? Should we help him?! IS MY BESTIE GOING TO DIE IN THERE?!?!” I slowly calmed her down and told her, “it's almost 9:30, we're not going outside during the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!” she nodded and said fine… let's get to sleep. I laid awake in bed, crying, thinking all of this was just a dream,.. right?

"well if we are going to fight a giant zombified spider, then we better get some supplies," I said "let's head over to my house," Maddie said "my mom has a bunch of weapons from her trip overseas" "Alright then let's go," Brittny said, after reaching for a kitchen knife.

"How did you even remember all that," Maddie said with a shocked look on her face. "my dad had this private training for me, ever wonder how I'm passing all my classes with straight A's?" Brittny then explained "oh, now I remember! it's a scrapy zombie-like thing but with a mix of spider DNA. anyways he built a giant zombified spider thing and its like super aggressive so he like, tried to kill it but it like didn't work. but anyways once it scratches or touches a human they turn into zombies and stuff. that's how this happened."

Maddie and I both screamed at the same time "jinx" I said as fast as I could

"hey!! over here!!!! I'M ALIVE AND I HAVE A VERY TASTY BRAIN!!!!!!" Brittny screamed, all the zombies slowly followed her into a shed, and then she locked the doors from the outside and ran off. "few thank goodness I didn't die" "Are you good? are they dealt with?" Maddie asked "yup! no more left... I think" Brittny said "good enough for me," I said and before we knew it we were breaking into Maddie's house for supplies. " I can't believe I'm breaking into my own house. this is stupid," Maddie said, "Finally we're in!" I exclaimed we then grabbed all the things we needed and ran back to base

we were shocked "Brittny!?!?!" it was Brittny, Brittny was probably the most popular kid in school, plus her dad was a rich scientist! "oh! looky here, it's trash hair and diary dork", "hey! don't call her that" I said. in 3rd grade, Brittny read Maddie's diary to the entire class and got away with it. I've hated her since, she put my bestie on the spot which is not cool. "so what are you doing at a minimart, I thought you said they were for poor kids like us," Maddie said she looked a bit frightened and shaky, "please just let me stay with you guys" "what.the.heck."

"so the basic plan is that Brittny will create a distraction by flagging all the zombies, then she will run into the safe spot because zombies are slow and she can easily get ahead of them, then Maddie and I will make our way into her house and grab all the materials needed to figure out how to find and get rid of the spider thing. any questions?"

"we've made a decision, you can join us if you want," I said with a crooked smile. " but only on one condition", "what is it! I will do anything" Brittny said " you cant bully us anymore or else will leave you to die," Maddie said in a low voice.

"oh ok I can do that" Brittny muffled "thank you guys for this, I won't let you down." "Now let's get out of here before that zombie spots us," I said we then jumped out of the back window in the store and ran back home "Welcome to our humble abode, I'm sure it's not as fancy as your mansion but it will do!" "It's not like I can go back there," Brittny said under her voice "what was that?" I asked "nothing" Brittny responded we then sat down to eat.

“It's 9:00 in the morning,” said Maddie “what are you thinking?!” as I walked downstairs I saw Asher. I ran to him and hugged him then said “we were so worried about you” then I went on about the giant rat we killed and so on. And then he started to gag. Maddie stepped back and quickly followed, then just like that asher lashed out HE HAD BEEN BITTEN! I quickly rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a knife and was about to attack but Maddie then stopped me. She then said, “this isn't right, I'm not going to let you kill asher” I paused and looked at her, then she said “this is wrong”

" of course, before we fully welcome you, we want to know the truth", "you know about your dad and all.." Maddie said "my dad was the owner of a very successful lab where people bring extinct animals to life, they started with the Tasmanian tiger, then the wooly mammoth, and finally the dead ancestors that they truly loved with all their heart. My dad had been working on the project for months yet couldn't get fresh DNA samples. so he dug up a recently dead human and took their DNA once they mixed that with the other substance the human and then they grew a uhh umh whats it called again"

after all the things you've done to us, yeah right. "PLEASE, my dad has gone mad, he's the one who created the first zombie after all" "WHAT?!?"Maddie and I said at the same time "he's the one who started this mess!" "jinx! but seriously. what? how?" I said, "I'm supposed to keep that a secret" Maddie stormed off to the candy section angrily, I followed

"i can believe her", "after everything that she put us through," Maddie said "you know, maybe we should give her a chance, no one should be left to die in the apocalypse." I said. "you're right" Maddie mumbled

"Well, now we know what we have to do," Maddie said, she then went on"it's just like the movies, we defeat the evil zombie spider and everything will go back to normal, right?"... "not when whatever that thing touches turns into a ZOMBIE," Brittny said, "were you listening at all?!!?". "where is your dad's lab anyways?" I said "it's at the end of the street, near that minimart we went to, remember" Brittny said

Maddie always knew the right thing to do, so I of course agreed with her. we shoved asher into our bathroom and used to couch to block the door, in case he figured out how to escape. "this is just like the movies" Maddie said, she didn't look very happy about this entire situation. I mean, our parents could be dead-ish (zombies). "I'm hungry, and your pantr/y stinks!" Maddie said. she was right, we had almost nothing to eat, and we will starve at this rate! then Maddie said"how about we get food from the minimart down the street", "at this point we have no choice," I said. Maddie grabbed her baseball bat and a pair of binoculars. and with a slight smirk said, "let's do this".

we jumped out of the back window, and stealthily walked over to a bush, we then crawled out of my backyard, and ran. luckily for us, the zombies were still occupied at Asher's house. "are those Cheeto puffs???!?!!!" Maddie said we snickered and went inside the minimart. we grabbed drinks, snacks, and most importantly the churros from the churro stand in the back. we were having so much fun until we heard a crash sound coming from the back. we hesitated before jumping out and charging at the mysterious figure in the distance. we stopped and realized what we were attacking.

I woke up to the sound of screaming, I looked out the window and watched my parents drive away in a big military truck. My heart stopped as all the screaming died down. I quickly got dressed and texted my bestie, Maddie. She told me that she had no clue what was going on either. She said she would come over to my house in 5 mins. 5 mins turned into 10, and 10 turned into hours. I started to get worried about her. I then heard a knock on the door and hesitated before opening it.

I looked through the peek hole and saw Maddie, looking anxious. I quickly opened the door and asked her what was wrong. And suddenly she fainted. Right at my doorstep. I brought her inside and asked her what was wrong, and she told me the most horrifying thing ever. “The zombie apocalypse has started. At first, I didn't believe her because the zombie apocalypse was just fiction.. Right? I took a few steps back and looked at her and started laughing.
