Virtual Orientation 2020

Elected members of a school advisory council include teachers, educational support personnel, and parents. Business partners and community representatives are invited to be members by the principal. SAC membership should reflect the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school. The majority of the SAC members should be parents and community members who are not employed at that school.

"The purpose of the SAC&nbsp;is to assist in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of the school improvement plan. SAC members may be requested to serve in other roles related to school improvement."

Our SAC meets once a month, at a mutually agreed upon time for approximately 1-2 hours. The time and dates of the meetings are determined at the start of the school year. Our first meeting is scheduled for 3:30 on August 27 in the Media Center.

We have been advised to remove bell schedules that include class transition times.  

We operate on a block schedule, and rotate orange and blue days. Period 3 meets every day. On orange days, periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 meet. On blue days, periods 2, 3, 4, and 6 meet. Students have 30 minutes for lunch. Students can begin to arrive in their first class of the day at 7:30, and should be in class by 8:00. Our day ends at 2:45.

Our school colors are Royal Blue and Orange, and we are the COWBOYS! Rowdy is our mascot.

We are an International Baccaluareate Middle Years Program School.

Face coverings will be required for students and staff when social distancing is not possible. Additionally, face coverings will be required during the following times: ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On the bus to and from school ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the hallways ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;During school arrival &amp; dismissal times ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the cafeteria when not eating Students will be provided cloth masks. We use one way hallways all around campus. Students will be reminded to maintain social distance as they transition between classes.

During the first two weeks of school, students will be taught to practice social distancing while waiting at school bus stops.

School transportation personnel and students will be required to wear a face covering on the bus, while also practicing social distancing. School transportation personnel will have disposable face coverings to provide to students in the event a student does not have his or her face covering. All school buses will employ social distancing measures to maximize student health and safety while on the bus.

Students will load the bus from back to front in order to encourage social distancing. Students living in the same household will be permitted to sit together on the bus. Hand sanitizer will be available on each bus, and students will be encouraged to use it upon entry and exit.&nbsp;

Morning drop off supervision begins at 7:30. Dismissal is at 2:45.

1. ENTER at the North County Aquatic Center. 2. Proceed to the back of the lot and turn right, following the arrows as shown. 3. Enter SRMS campus through the pool gate. 4. Follow the directions of school personnel and cross into the parent loop. Please pull as far forward as you are able.

5. After drop off or pick up, EXIT at the light onto CR 512.

Please watch for walkers/bike riders crossing your path.

In addition to kindergarten through twelfth grade vaccines, students entering or attending seventh grade need the following vaccinations: • One dose of tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine in grades seven through twelve • An updated DH 680 form to include Tdap, must be obtained for submission to the school&nbsp;

Our clinic is designated to address basic first aid and routine school medication administration. Students are not allowed to have any medication in their possession on school property, on the school bus, or while attending any school event except for emergency medication prescribed by a physician. This includes over the counter medication like Tylenol/aspirin or cough drops. Steps will be taken to assess and quarantine students presenting with symptoms of Covid-19 and parents will be notified in accordance with procedures established by the School District.

Families will need to complete a new lunch application each school year. You should complete one application per family.&nbsp;If you have two or more students who will be attending school in the district, they must all go on one application.

Students will be seated maintaining social distance at our cafeteria tables and in the blue auditorium seats as well as in the Multi-Purpose Room. Students will be issued an ID card that will be scanned for meal purchase, eliminating the need to touch keypads. We will provide each student with an SRMS lanyard on the first day of school to carry their ID card.

Band Beginning band students do NOT need to get an instrument yet. We will learn about all the instruments together in class before new students will pick their instruments. Returning band students should NOT bring their instruments for their first day of band class. Classes will begin bringing instruments on a staggered basis after the first two days of school. Paperwork to check out school-owned instruments will go home with students during the first week of school.

NEW THIS YEAR! The Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Forms must be signed electronically on FOCUS. The link is on page 55 of the <a href="https://www.indianriverschools.org/students_families/code_of_conduct">Code of Conduct</a>. The Acknowledgement Form is located under the Forms tab in FOCUS. Both the parent and student need to log into their FOCUS account to sign the forms.

After creating your Parent Portal Account, you have three options to choose from: If you do not know your enrolled child's Student ID number, you cannot link to the child from home. You will need to visit your child's school and bring along a valid Driver's License or a government-issued photo ID. If your enrolled child's social security number is on file with the school district and you know your child's Student ID number, you can link to the child from home. If you know your child's Student ID number, but your child's SSN is not on file with the district or you are not willing to provide the last four digits of your child's Social Security Number, you can link to the child at this time, but will need to visit the school to activate your account.

Teachers can work with students to provide designated “mask breaks,” during which time students will be socially distanced.&nbsp;

Classrooms have been arranged to maximize space and distance between students.

Hand sanitizer will be available in each classroom.&nbsp;

Students will be educated on the importance of wearing face coverings to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and will receive ongoing feedback related to their appropriate use of procedures and health promoting behaviors.  

Water fountains will not be in use for at least the first 9 weeks. Parents are encouraged to send in water with their children for use during the day.&nbsp;

Parents can assist by practicing mask-wearing and removal procedures at home prior to students' return to school.

All classrooms will have household grade disinfectant wipes available if individuals wish to self-clean desks, classroom surfaces and shared resources such as laptops.

We hope you will join our PTSA - membership is only $6 and goes along way to support our teachers and students at SRMS. 

We sponsor dinner for our teachers on Parent Conference night, goodies for our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, and we assist during the Scholastic Book Fair in January. We also help out wherever and whenever the faculty and staff needs our help.

Here you can see the course name, period &amp; teacher, and room number.

If you have a question about your student's schedule, feel free to contact his/her counselor. Please understand that due to the unforeseen and ever-changing circumstances of the past several months, adjustments and modifications had to be made. We will continue to work to provide each child with the best education possible. As counselors work to balance class sizes, some adjustments may be made over the next few weeks.
