2nd Grade Class

No Buddy Left Behind

You will receive a class buddy. You are expected to collaborate, tutor, assist and care for this student as you work through the curriculum. You will help and care for them and they will do the same for you.

We have a class blog. Everyday you and your family can see the fun things we do in class. As soon as your parents sign the permission slip we can start posting our classroom adventures.

You have the opportunity to receive a penny when you are caught doing good deeds and showing good behavior. When you earn 25 cents you may go to the class store. Then you get the opportunity to give your penny to another classmate until the entire class has earned 25 cents. Once the whole class has been to the store then everyone gets to earn 50 cents and go to the store again. This will continue throughout the entire year until we have all earned one dollar.

During the day when you see someone being kind, you will write your name down with a smiley face. If something happened that made you sad, you will write your name down with a sad face. At the end of the day behavior will be evaluated and discussed. You will use the words, "I liked it when you ....... It made me feel happy." Or, you will say, "I didn't like it when you ...... It made me feel sad." Your classmates will then tell you they are sorry, or they will say You're welcome. This will give you the opportunity to encourage your classmates in a positive class discussion.

V.I.P

You will have the opportunity to be our class V.I.P. When it is your turn you may bring a poster to school highlighting yourself. You will receive a reminder two weeks before it's your turn. You will have special responsibilities and opportunities during the week. The class will write about you and illustrate a picture of you.

You will need to read 20 minutes a day for five days of the week. You will need to complete a spelling and math work sheet. The homework will go home on Monday and it will need to be returned to school on Thursday. The math worksheet is what we are working on in class. The spelling list will help you know what to study and Prepare for the test. You will be tested on the spelling words each Thursday.

Daily Chores

Our daily routine and chores will be displayed each week. You will have responsibilities you will be in charge of. You can always know where we are and what we are learning by looking at our whiteboard.

Success Criteria

A "success criteria" is a list of features that you need to include in your work during the course of a lesson. It is a really good way of making you aware of what is expected and can also encourage you to extend yourself during the course of a lesson.

Running to Disneyland

Each student will run ¼ of a mile four days a week. At the end of the week our class will have run 25 miles. At the end of each week we will write about the town we have stopped in. By the end of the year we will have run 677 miles. This will be the equivalent of running to Disneyland. We will have a Disney party at the end of the year.
