American Bison

The bison is the largest and one of the most dangerous land animal in North America. Males and females stay apart during breeding season. In prehistoric times there were millions of bison in North America.

Newborn calves have reddish brown fur. Calves are nursed up to eight months and are free and  independent by one year of age.

It travels in herds so it can escape from predators. Also there are strong fast they run up to 40 mph.

“Oh no there’s someone chasing us lets go.” That’s what these bison seem to be saying .

The bison eats grass sedges and sometimes berries and lichen. In winter it uses its head to find grass to eat.

Bison live in Asia, Africa, and North America. Also they walk around flat plains and a wet grassy areas.

 American bisons weight comes from the front of their body. With a big head and shoulders. They have strong front legs. Males weigh 950 pounds-2,200 pounds and females way 800 pounds-1000 pounds.
