A Day in Kenya

School's finally done for today! come on, Let's start walking home.

It was great! I learned so much cool stuff in history today!<br />

Okay, now that dinner's over, it's time to wash up and go to bed.

Well, I'm sure you know that our country has a president, and it is our job as citizens to elect our president once we turn 18. Our government's main job is to do what's best for our country and its people. There are also basic rights that they protect like freedom of speech, press, and assembly.

We learned about the tribes that lived here a long time ago, and about some major things that happened with our government a few decades ago.

That's amazing, Zawadi! Did you learn about our government now?

This is math class. right now we are learning algebra. Come on! Let's go sit down.

Next we are going to talk about our past government. There has been lot's of political conflict recently where each person running for president would be accused of something, and our people would take sides. Multiple times there was an outbreak of violence where at least a hundred people died.

Almost there. I can't wait to tell my parents about what I learned during history today!

School is about a 30 minute walk from my house. Most people go to public school, but some lucky ones go to a private school.

Zawadi, come on! you're going to be late for school!

Okay I'm coming! That was my mom. Come on! You can come to school with me!

Well, that depends on how people choose to look at this whole thing. they could see it and try and make it better for everyone or make it worse.

However, if someone doesn't try and put an end to some things, I don't think things will go like we might want them to. Especially with the security forces, things could get out of hand really fast.

Well when I was about your age, my mother was very sick. She tried to go to the government hospitals, but all the ones that we went to had inadequate Medical supplies, and we couldn't afford any of the other hospitals. We tried turning to at home remedies, but none of them worked. She eventually passed away from her illness.

Wow, That's crazy. And none of the hospitals did anything about it?

This is my school! Today I have History and math! History is my favorite class. Especially this week because we are learning about the history and Government of Kenya.&#160;

Yes, it is. Although there is instability within the government because of ethnic tensions, government conflicts, and Kenya's military.&#160; There is also abuse by security forces.

There's also lack of health care which is a big concern. You should ask your dad more about that, he knows more than I do.

Okay class, today we will be talking about the history of our country for half of class, then we will talk about our government.

Math class is finally over. I've never been good at algebra. We have history next though! At least that will be fun!

THis is where the I eat with my four siblings. My parents eat in the other room. Some families eat all together, but mine is very traditional and the adults and kids eat separate.

They didn't have the supplies to do anything about it. But some people in other countries, like America, are trying to fix this problem.

When people first started settling in Kenya, they were just a bunch of tribes, and there was no real centralized form of government exept for in the Wanga Kingdom. There was also lots of conflict between the tribes.
