OUR SCHOOL’S CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES

On Friday 29th January and Wednesday 3rd February our school’s 6th Grade Student Councils visited the Pefki-Lykovrisi, Marousi and N. Heraklion Municipal Social Services Departments to deliver the food and medical supplies collected by the
school community as part of our school’s food drive and medical supplies donation programme.
The families of our school wholeheartedly embraced the initiative by donating large quantities of food, medicines and other essential items. Volunteering and donating has been one of our school’s top priorities not only as part of the social role of this school in the broader area but also as a means of instilling values in our young students so that they will develop a sense of social responsibility.
The local authorities welcomed the initiative and their representatives stressed the consistent efforts of Ellinoaggliki Agogi to encourage and support the social services of the neighbouring Municipalities and praised the charitable initiatives organized by our school, acknowledging the importance of our school’s charitable efforts for the local community.

EARTHQUAKE IN ELASSONA

On March 3, 2021, at 12:16 local time, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook the region of Elassona. The earthquake resulted in the loss of one person and three minor
injuries. There was still severe damage of an old school, two churches and many houses in Elassona. Of the 4,533 houses, 1,820 of them were deemed
uninhabitable in the earthquake-hit areas.
Our school’s help! Our school is always next to the people who are suffering.

Our school, due to the earthquake that happened in Elassona, decided to gather clothes and basic necessities for the earthquake victims.
For that reason, our school sent an invitation to parents, students and the employees of our
school which informed that whoever wanted to send help , he could do it from Wednesday 10/3/2021 until Friday 12/3/2021.

Once again, our school’s community has shown that supports and helps our fellow citizens. These photos are from the remedies that our school gathered.

HELPING HANDS
Once again, even in the midst of lock down our school’s assistance in gathering essentials for the earthquake victims in Elassona was particularly essential.
Basic food supplies durable for a long time, such as: evaporated milk, packets of legumes, cereals, cookies, rice, coffee, sugar and pasta were in the list.
Also, cleaning and personal hygiene items such as baby wipes, hand soap, napkins, kitchen paper, toilet paper, baby diapers, antiseptics, protection masks, glasses and disposable dishes were gathered from our school. Moreover , blankets and fan heaters to deal with the cold were collected.
Initially, the earthquake was reported with a magnitude of 5.9 degrees, but later most international agencies eventually reached 6.3 The earthquake was felt throughout central and northern Greece and at first it was said that it came from the Tyrnavos fault, which had given a devastating earthquake in 1892.
However, later it became known that it was a new, uncharted, unknown until 2021 fault of the region.
During the past 30 days, Elassona was shaken by 4 quakes of magnitude 4.0 or above, 42 quakes between 3.0 and 4.0, and 406 quakes between 2.0 and 3.0. There were also 971 quakes below magnitude 2.0 which people don't normally feel.

On 3 March 2021 and local time 12:16:10 an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale took place in the area of Elassona.

MAKE A WISH" - A GREAT THANK YOU

“Make A Wish” fulfils wishes that have the power to transform the lives of children with very severe diseases. One wish forms an integral part of the journey to the cure. Research proves that the children whose wishes have been fulfilled, can regain the physical and emotional strength they need to face a very serious illness.

We should all feel lucky and grateful that our children are healthy and enjoy a carefree childhood.
A Great THANK YOU to all of our school’s students who bought so many “Make A Wish” stars with which the sum of 5175€ was rendered to the organisation.
A special mention to the students of class St1 who managed to collect the most “Make A Wish” stars (246) of the entire school.
