International Museum Day

International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18.

In its modern form, the museum emerged as an individual collection of curious objects of aristocrats during the Renaissance. The nation state turns museums into a pillar of its cultural identity. Today, when the world is driven by globalization, the museum has become a major means of attracting tourists.

The museum collects, preserves and exhibits objects, images and texts related to a particular era or field.

Along with traditional museums exhibiting paintings, historical or archeological monuments, there are museums of almost everything: a museum of transport, a museum of wine, a museum of childhood, etc. International Museum Day has been celebrated since 1978 by decision of the International Council of Museums.

The Vatican Historical Museum was founded in 1973 at the behest of Pope Paul VI, and was initially hosted in environments under the Square Garden. The Vatican Historical Museum has a unique collection of portraits of the Popes from the 16th century.

It wasn’t easy to decide which museum we should visit, because all of the suggestions were very impressive. But at the end we decided that The Louvre was ‘our place’.

The building, which in the past was first a military fortification and then a royal residence, is located in the center of Paris, between the River Seine and Rue Rivoli. It first opened as a museum on November 8, 1793, during the French Revolution. The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci

It tooks us about hour and a half to look around the whole museum. We loved the photos of the building. The things we liked best was the most popular painting in the world - Mona Lisa and the sculpture- The venus de Milo. We also liked the department of the egyptian antiquities. You can see there The Great Sphinx of Tanis, Kohl box monkey with palm tree and The Statue of Horus.

For the students in Class 8v of our school, the English lessons in the second week of this month were very excited. The whole class was happy when Mrs Bobekova, gave us the mission. She told us to choose a museum, which we like the most. She also said that we should write a report for our e-book.

There were six of us in our group. We had six suggestions. It was easy for us to choose because everyone was impressed about J Paul Getty Museum. Everyone wanted to visit this museum, which is located in Los Angeles, CA. Our lovely teacher, Mrs Bobekova helped us by sending links about museums all over the world.
