Chapter 1

Phases of Water

When you think of water, you might think the one we drink at home, water you swim on like lakes, swimming pools. All of these are liquid water. Matter in fact there is less water in liquid. The air around us has water vapor, which is water in gas phase.

Snow and ice is in the solid phase. Giant glaciers are in the solid phase too.

There is gas, liquid, and solid water. These are the three phases

Place Were Water Exists On Earth

If you picture globe, most of the blue you see is ocean. In the matter of fact, 96.5 percent is salt water. This means that there's a small amount of Freshwater on Earth. Most of the freshwater found is on glaciers, icebergs, groundwater, and swamps.

Collecting Water for Human Use

People collect water in a lot of ways.
One of the most common way is to build a dam across the river. The dam blocks the flow of water, causing the water to make a lake behind the dam.
Human-made lakes like these called reservoirs.

Rainwater collection techniques have been used for thousands of years. A common system involves gutters and pipes that direct rainwater from a roof to a storage tank.

Condensation of Water

Condensation is when a gas turns into a liquid. One example of condensation is water vapor turning into liquid water. When water vapor condenses, the molecules that make up the water vapor slow down and come together.

Clouds are made of tiny droplets of water that condense high in the air.

Where is water vapor in the air. When air cools, some of the water vapor condenses into tiny drops of liquid water and cloud forms, fog, or dew. Water vapor in the air can condense into liquid drops of water when it hits something cold, such as a cold window or a cold juice can.
